Ovulation and taking Clomid for PCOS

Hi,

I was taking 50mg of clomid on days 2-6 of my period over 5 weeks ago. I have to have 2 ultrasounds on days 8 & 13 (day 13 due to a bank holiday). Only 3 follicles were found and my Gynie told me that Clomid had not worked last month as there wasn't any change with the follicles. 2.5 weeks ago, I had a funny pain in my abdomen felt abiot like I had flu and was very tired, had a very creamy discharge, but didn't do anything about it. Was that ovulation????
Also my Clomid has gone up to 100mg on days 2-6, AF arrived this morning and I have heard that some women who take Clomid, take this on days 5-10, may I ask why????
I really hope that something happens this month as I have only one more try with Clomid after this month and if nothing happens they are sending me to Leeds for IVF (something I'm totally scared about). Already have a dd, conceived after 8 years of taking sub-fertility drugs and having 2 lap & dyes,
Is there anyone out there that is in the same boat..............

Hi Malinki, I hope that the Clomid higher dose works for you. If it doesn't don't be at all scared about the IVF. I'm waiting to start the ICSI procedure and even the thoughts of the injections, drugs and egg collection don't phase me and I HATE needles! No need to worry about anything, it's a process there to try and help you. Think of it in a positive and enpowering way. All is well with it.

None the less, lots of love and luck for your Clomid xxxx

Hi Malinki,

Unfortunately clomid does not always work for all PCOS patients and in any event it should be given to such people with caution. At least you are being monitored with ultrasounds (but blood tests should be done as well).

Your symptoms a couple of weeks ago are actually suggestive of salpingitis (the flu like symptoms along with the discharge and high temp are all indicative of this condition). It usually clears up without problems with or without antibiotics. Do speak to your Gynae about this though.

It sounds like she has upped the clomid dose to try and get your ovaries to ovulate (but as said above it is not in itself without its problems). It is usually taken between days 2 - 6 of your cycle.

There are other forms of treatment that can be tried long before you get to the IVF stage - infact PCOS on its own without any other problems at all like male factor is not an immediate indicator for IVF.

Has anyone mentioned either the injectible drugs or diathermy surgery?. These are two options I would suggest you look closely at and enquire about.

You will need to be persistant in order to get answers, be persistant with them!!!

Thanks everyone, my Gynie reminded my DH only the other day that the last time I started taking Clomid (God, about 8 years ago), I might as well of been eating smarties, I have been having my bloods done, but they only do mine on day 21 to see if I've ovulated, and also liver, diabetes check etc etc. My Gynie is really nice (DH thinks she was the Gynie's pa when he 1st met her 8 years ago, what a shock he got), she told me that she would keep on going treatment with me if I ovulate in the 3 months that I will be seeing her, we are going to start month 2 today, so no pressure here then. She said she would up my Clomid to 150mg after this months results if no action and then she would refer me to her boss at Leeds General Infirmary a Mr Tony Rutherford. One thing we did learn from my Gynie is she is very experienced herself as she suffers with PCOS is 41 years old and had a DS 18 months ago, her boss got her pregnant (fancy that, your boss doing your treatment), it was IVF treatment and she tried to tell me that it isn't as bad as people make it out to be.
If you already have a child and a medical condition that limits your chances of getting pregnant, how much would IVF treatment cost.
Any ideas???

Well I'm back for my ultrasound scan tomorrow to see how many folicles are growing (if thats the right word to use), I go back on 07th June as well to measure the change in the follicles, I feel like I could cry today, I'm so nervous, its like waiting for examination results at school. My DH keeps saying everything will be ok, we've got another month on Clomid which they will up the dosage to 150mg and then if it doesn't happen we'll go down the IVF route. But I'm scared to death of needles, like panic attacks if I see the needles (even having blood test when pregnant with dd, resulted in almost strapping me to my seat and having my face slapped, well not quite that bad, but..........). Sorry to moan, most of the time I'm a rugby players wife, who used to rock climb, cave and canoe as hobbies, to this shriveled scardy cat thing who has suddenly turned into the most impatient person in the world , still i'm breathing and I have a beautiful 3.5 year old dd, so I am thankful. Do you think I'm stressed???

Lots of follicles this morning, but they are all the same size, so here's hoping that one of them will get bigger in the next 4 days.
