Just to clarify im not trying to conceive, this was the only section i could find! Basically I'm on the contraceptive combined pill Marvelon, not very good at taking it but still taking it every day. Had sex with my bf on Sunday without a condom and he came inside me.
In the last few days I've been feeling sick and achey and im a bit of a worrier, so took a pregnancy test (i know its only been 5 days) and i appear to have two lines on it, the second is faint..

Please tell me what you think - is this a positive., what should i do, as im scared sh*tless.

It could be many things Sky. If you have been a bit erratic in taking your pill it may just be your cycle is a bit all over the place and that's why you are bleeding and / or that your period has come early. Stress can also cause your periods to go a bit haywire. Realistically you are not going to know for sure if you are pregnant for about another week (at least) on even the early response type tests as you need at least 10-14 days after conception to have enough HCG in your urine to be detected by a pregnancy test (although if your period arrives now / next week you can reasonably assume that you are not pregnant). Please take comfort in the fact that the odds of getting pregnant after one episode of sex and one missed pill are slim, (but not impossible), and many people take several months to conceive even when they are actively trying, so your chances of being pregnant are low. Long term it sounds like it may be worth you making a GP appointment to discuss contraceptive options with them?

Don't worry, you're almost certainly not pregnant. You're just studying your period more than you would've before, and its maybe a bit different because of the pill.

Hi lovely!

The faint line you can see is not the second line you would be looking for if you were pregnant. The line you can see is grey and sometimes does show up just from peeing. If you were pregnant both lines would be pink and closer to each other.

Also there's now way you would get a positive test yet. Always make sure you test correctly to get the most accurate result.

Test 2 days after your missed period (if you miss your period. Always use your first pee of the day. This is because pregnancy tests work by detecting a hormone called HCG in your pee that is only there when you're pregnant (unless you are taking progesterone increasing medication). There will be more HCG in your pee in the morning and so if you are pregnant you are more likely to get a positive result testing with your first pee. Also, use a First Response test as they are generally very accurate. Hold the stock downwards and only pee for the amount of seconds the instructions say. Then replace the cap and place the test on a flat surface leaving 5 minutes to develop. 2 lines is positive, even if one line is faint (it will also be pink and close to the other line).

It is possible to get a negative result even if you are pregnant as it may take a while for enough HCG is in your system for the test to pick up. If you still don't get your period after a negative result, test every 2 days in the same way.

Good luck whatever you're hoping for! x

Thank you guys. I'm bleeding a bit but its not my period - I'm still on the pill and my 7 day break is on Tuesday. It's not blood, more watery-pink blood? Am also cramping. Its been a week now so Im testing on Wednesday, by then it'll have been 10 days.

It is probably breakthrough bleeding if you haven't been consistent taking your pill.

MrsPCR · 14/02/2016 19:12

If you're still taking the pill at all then you won't get a proper period. Also if you've been inconsistent in taking it, as pp says, you can experience unexpected, different break through bleeding.

If you're still worried, take a test when you're 14 days after sex. That one would probably be accurate but they normally say 21 days from unprotected sex to be 100% sure of a true negative. You can get false negatives (from testing too early) but you will never get a false positive.

Sort your contraception out. It's not worth this stress each month.

Perhaps the implant would be more suitable for you given that you find it difficult to remember to take your pill - see your GP or family planning clinic for advice Smile
