Ovulation sticks and periods

Hiya, can you all pander to my stupidity a minute, but if I'm having periods, but no ovulation seems to be showing up on the sticks (hehehe, obsessively tested virtually the whole way through the mid couple of weeks of my 5/6 week cycle) is that likely to mean that although I'm having periods, I am not ovulating? Trip to GP required? .... Just wanting to start TTC (well, just persuaded DH to start trying at least!) so do you think this needs to be checked or is it my 'stick techique' that needs checking lol.

Good luck to you all with TTC and seasons greetings :-)

It is certainly possible to have periods without ovulating. This can happen to any woman (even a normally fertile woman can have the occasional anovulatory cycle) but it is more likely to happen if periods are irregular in nature.

OPK's are of no benefit if periods are irregular because these measure LH hormone. If the levels of LH being produced are higher than normal then the kit will just read that.

The thing to consider here as well is what your periods are actually like. A "normal" cycle is a cycle length of between 21 and 35 days or with a variation of 4 days from month to month. Also if your periods have been irregular for a long time it is worth seeking advice sooner rather than later.

If you were to have a blood test done then the levels of LH (luteinising hormone) and FSH (follicle stimulation hormone) must be compared against one another. LH and FSH hormones are crucial to the whole ovulation process. Ideally LH and FSH should be the same but if there is an imbalance then this could indicate of hormonal problems which can be treated.

Would seek medical advice and get a blood test done.
