Hi Guys.
Hope some one can help me. We have been trying for a baby for over a year now without much luck. Just had our first fertility meeting. Had my blood tested and my husband had a Sperm count too.I had my Blood Test on the 21st day after the start of my period. They told me that my levels were fairly low & that my husband Sperm quality and count were ok. My cycle is fairly regular (about 32 days). Please can someone shed some light as to when do you think I ovulate and also does the low reading on the blood test show that I hadnt ovulated that month.

Phew!!!

I would have thought that usually people ovulate around the middle of their cycle so your results would be low around the 21 st (I always ovulate around the 12th) so I don't thin it means you didn't ovulate probably just you already had iyswim. Why not try ovulation predictor tests I found that the clearblue didgital worked brill this will give you a better idea about when during your cycle you actually ovulate.

Have you tried one of those ovulation test kits? I think they tell you when you are just about to ovulate...

Ovulation will occur 14 days before period, not a fixed time after (unless your super regular) So i think ovulation will be day 18?

Dont quote me on that though... Im pretty sure thats right though.

I also have a 32 day cycle which, in my case, means I ovulate around day 16-20. This is because, as I understand it, I have an average length luteal phase (the bit after ovulation) of 12-16 days and it is the period before ovulation which is longer than average. This seems to be fairly common, from what I have read.
Ledodgy is right - those little sticks can be helpful in working out when you might ovulate.
No idea what the levels mean. Can you call the clinic/hospital and ask them to explain some more?

June001:
go to google and type in fertility calculator and then click on healthatoz and type in your period length 32 days you said and last date of first day of period and it will calculate your fertile week and ovulation within a day or so. I have a 25 day cycle and ovulate on day 11. Usually my doctor says that you count 14 days back from the lenth of days your period is and that is the day you should ovulate, 32-14 for you would be day 18. I used an ovulation predictor kit for 2 months and found out that I indeed ovulated on day 11. They are tricky though, because even if there is another line on the stick it has to be of equal color or darker than the test line and that will predict ovulation within 24-36 hours. We have been trying for 6 months so far and all of our tests came back great so I'm a bit stumped as to why it hasn't happened for us Good luck and I hope this helps.

Hi June001

What was looked at in terms of hormone and what was the result?. A day 21 test is a standard test done to measure progesterone.

What have they now proposed re any treatment?.

If your progesterone level was below 30 it may be that you did not ovulate that particular month. The clinic should have told you this anyway.

Ovulation is not an exact science and it is not correct to assume that ovulation always occurs on or around the 14th day. Ovulation can easily occur earlier, later or not at all in any given cycle and it is also possible to have periods without ovulating.

Would give opk tests a wide berth as these can give false positive results (particularly if you are one of many women who are producing higher than average levels of luteinising hormone).
