I would have expected that you would get a definite positive (if you were pg) by around 18 days after. But if you only wanted to test once I'd leave it 21 days.

Ok, thankyou for your help.

Irregular periods are often caused by hormonal imbalances and these imbalances affect ovulation. I would look into having a blood test done to see what your hormone levels are like. Such problems can be treated.

I'm not trying for a baby at the moment so it's not necessary to check my ovulation as such. The doctors told me not to worry about my periods being quarterly if they always have been. Just a concern if they suddenly went haywire.

I just want to check i'm not pregnant as a cautionary procedure and needed to know if now was too soon.

"The doctors told me not to worry about my periods being quarterly if they always have been".

Sigh at this doctor's pronouncement. If your periods are about 90 days apart (presumably this is what you mean by quarterly) then it is very unlikely you are ovulating so you are unlikely to become pregnant at this time.

A normal cycle is a cycle length of between 21 and 35 days or with a variation of 4 days or less from month to month.

Perhaps the doctor said it as she knew i wasn't planning conception. Who knows, they have always been like this so i tend not to worry.

Fairyfly, As someone who was fobbed off by a number of GPs over 12 years when asked about irregular periods only then to have to undergo IVF. Please consider getting an opinion from a gynaecologist, there are other health implications apart from not ovulating connected with irregular/absent periods increased risk of endometrial cancer to name but one (not wanting to scare you) and also PCOS which may affect long term fertility, When you are ready to have a family For your own peace of mind just get it looked at.

I have had two children quite easily and wouldn't go on ivf if i found out i couldn't have more.

I will ask again next time i am in the doctors if you think it is a health concern.

Firstly i am waiting 18 days on the off chance.
