Hi all

Has anyone got any experience of this charity? I've had the hair analysis done, and would like to compare notes with people on their results.

Also has anyone undertaken the supplement programmes that might have been recommended? They look a little costly to me....

Thanks

Foresight are not a charity - they're a business.

TBH I would use supplements from Boots and the like; they will be as much benefit to you along with being cheaper as well. Hair analysis is problematic in its own right.

What you need to consider is what your periods are like in terms of regularity. If they are irregular and or painful (or if you're spotting between periods) it is best to seek medical advice sooner rather than later.

I take that back - they are a charity but why are they charging so much for supplements?.

Hmmm. Would look at them with a degree of scepticism.

My BF has used them and speaks very highly of them.

Attila - I don't know anything about Foresight, but looking at their supplement price list, I don't think they're that overpriced.

I can't speak about their own-label vitamins, but I notice they supply Lamberts, Solgar, and Biocare; all of which are very high quality vitamins and the sort which tend to be recommended by nutritionists. They ARE more expensive than those you will find in Boots - but they are also more potent, and often made using more easily-absorbed forms of the nutrients.

Hi all

Thanks, for you for you replies. The literature provided has been very useful and does cover many aspects of conception.

I had the hair analysis done while still on the pill (coming off at the end of this week ), because I was suffering from Chloasma(pigment on the face) and hair breakage (every four months) and so thought there might be something wrong.

I've been told by Foresight that my copper levels are too high. Research on the internet seems to point at the pill as being the cause and does also say there is a linnk to the above ailments - certainly nothing in our water here, so I've decided to take four months off the pill before trying to conceive.

The question is whether to take something like the Pro Natal supplements from Boots which I am already on or go for the £250 supplements from Foresight. Its a lot of money, but if it puts my body back on track moreso than the cheaper option could then i don't mind at all.

I'm just not entirely convinced at the moment .

Hi Sallypoo

£250 supplements??!! I would be wary of spending that sort of money - even for very high end products.

Can you get to the stage where they're recommending what you should take and in what quantities, and then see if you can source the vits yourself?

I (personally) would recommend going for supplements that are higher in dosage than the kind of high street brands you get in Boots. Often they contain just the bare minimum, whereas if you're trying to correct an imbalance or deficiency in a nutrient, a nutritionist might suggest a far higher dosage.

I use a US supplements website (vitacost.com) which supplies a really high quality, high dosage pre-natal supplement formulated by MDs at $15 for a month's supply. UK vitamins are hugely overpriced in my opinion - even with the shipping costs US vits are less than half the price.

Good luck anyway!!

Thanks everyone. I'm writing to Foresight this week to discuss these issues. I'll let you know how I get on. Thanks for the website XmassyCharlotte I think I've seen this one before, I'll check it out...

I'm sure with me coming off the pill this week and taking a four month break, I'll have lots of other questions to ask over the coming months!

An update.

I wrote to Foresight in mid-December, and received a response last week. They forgot to reply to my letter! The supplements have been posted to me last week - still haven't received them though. My husband is not taking part. He is very sceptical.

I am still trying to get answers to all my outstanding questions but having written before Christmas and only having received another hand written note, and to be fair, a call field by my DH I still trying.

I can see that there are other people on mumsnet who have used them. I would really like your views on Foresight. Maybe we could discuss these off line?

Thanks
Sallypoo

Hi, I had a book called Natural Solutions to Infertility by Marion Glenville and at the back it had a number to call - I'm not sure if it was foresight supplements or something else. I know they did hair analysis anyway. I used the supplements they recommended - there was one for women and one for men and I dont know how much difference they made but I did become pregnant. I took them prior to my 2nd pregnancy and didnt with my third. I'm now trying for a fourth and not bothering with them but am taking 'good quality' multivitamins from a natural food shop.

Hi
I used Foresight a few years ago. We did the hair test and bought what felt like squillions of tablets that you had to take about 3 times a day. Foresight'a success rate is aparently pretty good but for us the whole tablet thing became too much and we gave up. You have to be very disciplined. Around the time I drifted away from the tablets I started accupuncture which was far better for me. I went every couple of weeks and after around 6 months fell pregnant - this was after around 3 years of trying. I couldn't categorically say it was the accupuncture but I had great confidence in it. I always felt that it was my specific body and its needs that were being treated rather than having the generic approach of conventional medicine. The month before I got pregnant my accupuncturist said I was ready and hey presto! Not a cheap option but then neither are the tablets.

Yes I used them years ago after my first child dying. We both came off alcohol for over a year. I stopped the pill. We ate very healthily I became a healthy weight and exercised, took some supplements and ate organically where I could. It was worth every penny and minute of effort. I have a child who has only seen the doctor once and has never had an antibiotic. Some of this might well be due to genetics and other factors and we can never rule out chance but it was very important for me to do the best I could. Guilt was a factor but I am very glad I did it.
