So I’ve been TTC for 2 months. My diet is generally pretty good but thinking of improving it by doing the following:

—————

Typical day:

BREAKFAST

Wholemeal grain toast with avocado OR organic free range eggs OR smoked salmon

LUNCH

Large bowl of homemade vegetable soup

AFTERNOON

1 fruit and 2-3 dates, few nuts

DINNER

examples:
Fish with vegetables
Pasta with vegetables
Curry

Multivitamin folic acid with main meal

--

No alcohol or caffeine :(
2 litres mineral water per day
1 decaffeinated coffee in morning (with organic full fat milk)

I don’t generally eat poultry or red meat. Thinking I should try a weekly steak?

Would love any feedback, tips etc

If you made any chances to your diet and got pregnant, what were the changes you made etc

That sounds like it could get boring really quickly!

I can't help you with experiences, but as you apparently want to try some harmless methods ... herbal medicine is my hobby. Try geranium robertianum, it is much recommended in one of my herb books.

Oh, and make sure you get lots of calcium and magnesium, and related to that, vitamin D and K (K1 and 2). If you eat meat you need more calcium, so I'd recommend to stay on your diet. (Which I guess contains lots of green veggies like broccoli anyway, which is a good source for calcium)
I don't know if calcium and magnesium are related to conception, but once you're pregnant your body will need it to make up the baby's bones, so it's good to fill the stores.

If you are worried about getting enough protein, you could combine grains with legumes. Like, beans with corn, or lentils with rice.

Hi,

Ooh this thread sounds interesting - I'm keen on nutrition whilst TTC (beginning in one week) and once preggo.

I'm eating a load of leafy green veg at the mo and taking a TTC multivitamin every day. I'm on the look out for a nutrition book for this type of thing.

That sounds healthy lemons.

I've heard (think it was on the telly) that low levels of vitamin d can go against chances of conception.

X

Eat a broad, balanced diet. Don't over eat but don't restrict calories either and you will be fine.

You could do with more healthy fats, I think. Coconut oil, organic butter from grass fed cows etc. Supports your endocrine (hormonal) system.

Genuinely curious - how is 'Organic butter from grass fed cows' better for ttc than big standard butter?

queenoftheworld93 · 04/11/2015 22:30

That should be bog standard butter not big Confused

VestalVirgin · 04/11/2015 22:43

Butter from grass fed cows contains more omega-3-fatty acids, which are better for your health. (Short answer. Google it for the long answer)

It also tastes better. Seriously, try it.
