Hi!

Can anyone recommend a good male vit supplement?

Are the key things Zinc, vits A,C and E and selenium?

Thanks!

My OH takes a very high quality multi-vit/mineral which contains high proportions of the relevant vits, PLUS an extra 400iu of Vit E and 1000mg of Vit C a day.

My advice would be to steer clear of most of the vitamin supplements you get in high street supermarkets/chemists or H&B - they usually contain inferior versions of the nutrients and pretty low dosages.

I am a bit of a nutrition obsessive, and get all my vits from an American website (about 1/3-1/2 of the cost of getting the equivalent over here, even including p&p & customs) www.vitacost.com. For example, my pre-natal vits which I buy from there cost $15 a month and include EVERYTHING I need. But because I'm a bit obsessive I supplement that with Vit C, and have just started taking Evening Primrose Oil.

Or google "Zita West" and her website has some - bought for me and DH and the service was great. Arrived really quickly.

Now if we could just remember to take them!

Xmassy Charlotte I read that v high doses of Vit C can dry up CM not sure how much though.

Budabauble, can I ask if your dh has had a 'low' sperm result or if you are both just taking these supplements to help anyway? My dp had a 'boderline' result so I have just ordered 2 months supply for both of us to see if it makes any difference. I understand it takes 10 weeks for sperm to form so hope if we do it for the 2 months (we have another test for mid February) this may improve things, will let you know! I certainly think it can't help and a few people on here have now mention Zita West. Also see she works from the Lister Clinic which I think is well recognised in fertility matters. It's expensive mind you but would be well worth it if it just slightly improves things as I think this would take us out of the 'boderline' bracket. Fingers crossed and thanks for the posting as I have been trying to track down a comprehensive vitamin for men rather than buying everything individually.

sparklytreeangel, if you take grapefruit juice it would help with any side effects of vitamins. I took it for the first time last month, just out of interest really!!!, and the difference is amazing. Only had one glass a day but was gobsmacked the difference it made. Just a thought!

My DH had 2 sperm tests in the summer- both high count but very low morphology and motility.

He started taking Pycogenol (think that's the right spelling- can get it in Holland and Barrett) and a supplement that I read about on another website called 'FertilAid'. It's from America and quite expensive. I bought it on ebay.

We have been TTC for 18 months now, and in addition to his problems I had hormonal problems and some endometriosis.

My consultant said would have to do ICSI because of sperm problem so went to IVF clinic and they did another test which came out Normal! This was about 4 months after the first tests.

So... not sure if the other tests were wrong or if the supplements made a difference but worth trying I'd think.

we decided to have a couple of tries at IUI instead and planned to start this month.

Bit more additional info (sorry such a long message!) but after having laser treatment on endometriosis a couple of months ago I got a BFP on Friday!

As I said, have been trying for 18 months. Apart from the surgery, in the last couple of months I started acupuncture, started to drink grapefruit juice and went on holiday over ovulation time (by coincidence). My DH also felt much better about having an OK test which I think helped him mentally. Not sure what exactly helped but all seemed to have come together!

Hi

We're about to try the Foresight supplements. They would ask you to do a hair analysis first - although this can be quite interesting. Not cheap however. Lots of info on diet and minerals etc on the website... www.foresight-preconception.org.uk
