Hi everyone
Just looking for some help as a newbie. Hubby and I decided to start ttc on our first wedding anniversary. I already use a really basic app to track my periods so I worked out when I was fertile and gave it a go at the start of September. AF arrived today - two days late - and I know it's silly but I'd started to get my hopes up. Now I feel a bit daft, what are the chances of it just happening first time?!

Anyway, I've had a read through the forum and there seems to be a few methods of tracking when you're actually ovulating. I'm just not sure where to start! I should mention I'm 36 so it'll probably be a bit harder all round.

I never used to think I wanted kids...now it's all I can think about!

C xx

The journey can be hard! But for some it happens straight away, yet others it can be years.

The best advice I can give is don't let it takeover your life, TTC can become all consuming and getting your hopes up each month is hard work.

Track using OPKs and when you get a positive opk keep dtd for a few more nights after it as this is a warning that ovulation is about to occur.

Good luck!

I know exactly how you feel about getting your hopes up first month! I remember it well! As mascaraisamust says, some lucky couples hit the jackpot first time but others have to wait a while longer...

Along with trying OPK's you could also try temping. Don't forget that OPK's only detect the level of LH in your urine which, when you get a positive usually means you will ovulate in the next day or so. However, sometimes you could get a positive OPK but your body doesn't release an egg. It may try to release an egg again a few days later. Therefore positive OPK's do not mean you are definitely ovulating. With temping, once you get a sustained temperature rise this indicates you have ovulated. Many women like to use OPK's and temping together to get a more accurate idea of when they are ovulating.
