TTC after the removal of the contraceptive implant...

First time poster on this topic...Apologies in advance for any error in my etiquette.
After dd was born I had the Nexplanon implant fitted, it is now at the end of it's life (evidenced by me currently being on the worst period I've had, after 3 years of hardly anything) and is being removed next week. I'm hoping to start to ttc in November but I'm concerned about how long it will take for my cycles to return to normal. I'm 32 and have one good ovary and one that is 'clubbed'. However, It only took one month of ttc to conceive. In spite of this, I still managed to drive myself insane with trying to get pregnant in the months leading up to ttc and the one month we tried. We used fertility monitors and DH did not get a break. It was all consuming and I don't want to be like that this time. I was wondering if anyone else has any experience of how long it took for fertility to return to normal after the implant? At least I will be able to then give myself a sensible window of what is normal before I start tracking and driving myself mad.

Hi there. There are some previous threads on this topic. If your implant has already run out - you may be able to conceive straight away. For some ladies it takes a few months for their period to come back, but for others they are able to get pregnant straight away. As with all things TTC, there are no hard and fast rules as we're all different. Best of luck!

Thanks. This is the first proper period I've had in three years so I might start charting from today. I'll have a look for the other threads and pretend in relaxed about it all!

Hey loki

I don't know if I have much useful info as such but thought I would post as I'm in a similar position. I had my nexplanon taken out 3 months before starting ttc (we had a pretty fixed date as we were waiting to get hitched before ttc).

The nurse told me there's no reason why I wouldn't be able to conceive immediately after having it removed and that's the same as info I read online. I had one really mental heavy period (with the worst PMS ever - I'd had nexplanon for so long I didn't realise that's what it was at first!) but after that first cycle all my subsequent ones were normal.

Can't comment on whether my fertility is affected as we're ttc#1 but fingers crossed for both of us Smile

Hi
I had my implant removed in June last year and fell pregnant in the October. I had a period when it was first removed, but didn't have another one until August and then had 2 in spetember Confused
I wish I had waited a few months for my cycle to become more regular before I ttc. I put a lot of pressure on myself and worried (unnecessarily) that there was something wrong.
Anyway I hope this helps a little and good luck ttc.

Thanks. I'm worried I'm going to do the same. I'm not a patient person!

I'm on cycle 4 now after having it removed and my cycle is at 31 days (last cycle was 39, before that it was 28 and 21). So definitely hasn't calmed down to my usual 28 days just yet.

I had it in for three years as well.

From what I've read, people seem to either get pregnant in the first month or it takes six months and there's no in between!!

Oh and prepare yourself for numerous PG symptoms in the first few months - the withdrawal symptoms after the implant very strongly mimic pregnancy. This is the first month that my body hasn't been tricking me lol.

FX for you Smile

Thanks that is good to know. I've been experiencing 'pregnancy boobs' for a while now. I even took a test on holiday because I felt pregnant. I'm wondering if that is because the implant was running out? I can't wait to have it out now. I'll feel better once I've got my cycle back I think.
