Pregnancy tests - daft question

You know the cheapy pregnancy test sticks... if you had a positive test, would the pregnancy line appear at the same time the control line does?

When using them, you obviously see the fluid move its way up the stick and the control line appears pretty much immediately as it works it way up... but would I see a positive result at that point, or does it take a while for that line to appear (if it's going to)?

Anyway who saw their first positive result on one of these tests - how long did your positive line take to appear?

Got my cheapy test for the 99p shop :-) control line appeared a minute or so before the second line, which was a little fainter. Cheapy tests are fine and just as reliable as more expensive I believe. The more expensive may detect things slightly earlier but if your period is late then any old test'll do :-)

Until you're about 6 weeks, the test line will always take longer to come up. Once the HCG levels are high enough, (I tested at 7 weeks) then the test line comes up before the dye hits the control line.

If you take a plastic test apart, you will see a cheapie strip inside just in a posh plastic casing.

My first test was an IC and took about 4 minutes of the 10 minute to read before a positive showed. I was about to chuck it in the bin thinking it we a BFN!

Thank you ladies! All of this makes me realise how little I know about all of this.

Got my positive on a cheapie. Then did a clear blue expensive one to show the OH! (And S predicted his response was 'are you sure that's a line?) men don't believe in lines! Next time I will buy a digital one for his benefit!

Expensive ones don't necessarily show up earlier. A cheap internet test is more sensitive than a Clearblue digital for example. Once you are late, it makes no difference whatsoever which tests you use in very general terms. Cost is indicative of very little. You're paying for packaging mostly.

When I tested very early (9 days post ovulation), it took a few minutes for the test to show as positive. Testing later (around a week after my period was due), the test would colour positive before the urine even reached the control line.

The general gist is to do the test, leave it for the amount of time specified in the instructions and then discard.
