2 weeks of pre-AF pain - normal?

Hi TTCers,

I'm currently on cycle 3 of TTC #1. As I had been on the implant for many years, I can't honestly remember exactly what symptoms I used to have pre-AF... but I don't think it was anything more than 3-4 days of period pain.

For the past few cycles I've had dull aches/cramps around ovulation and this has continues on until turning into period pains then AF. From what I've read, some women get some pain around ovulations - but I've not heard anyone saying they get on-going aches/cramps in the pelvic area for around 2 weeks before AF.

So just want to check in - I'm totally normal, right?

I used to get this but it was caused by endometriosis. It improved after I had my DD but then started again about a 1.5 later. It improved with accupuncture. I don't have any experience of the implant but I will say it doesn't sound normal to me and wasn't in my case so it would be worth seeing your GP for a referral to a Gynaecologist.

I get this some cycles but not every month. My doctor has referred me to a gynaecologist for a transvaginal ultrasound scan. She suspects it could possibly be endometreosis or ovarian cysts.

Unfortunately the months I do get it I've had a more painful AF than usual so if you do come on I'd take some ibuprofen straight away.

My doctor didn't want to refer me at first as I'd not been TTC for a year but I said forget the TTC thing, should I have to suffer painful periods for a year before you'll do anything? She agreed hence the scan.

I think what you're describing is the after effects of implant removal - i was exactly the same for two months! Drove me crazy because I was convinced it was a PG symptom.

I was wondering that too MummyBex. I think if its still happening by cycle 6 maybe then I should take it further. Its milder than period pain - just a dull constant ache between ovulation and period pain. My periods are also not too heavy... think I'll monitor for a while. Just wanted to check in for advice! Thanks everyone Smile

I would suggest you keep a daily pain (note pain on a scale from 1-10) and symptom diary for the next couple of months; this will also give the gynae clues.

Any cyclical pain that gets worse up to and including menses should be checked out anyway by a gynae to see if endometriosis is the cause.
