Hi everyone - I'm knew to the forum and I'm struggling to conceive my first child at 35. Im sure it will happen but Im also getting the tests done to make sure.
Ive had my day 21 test and it came back at 37 which I guess is ok?
Im having the dye test on Monday and Im going on my own - has anyone else had it and does it really hurt? I worried I will be a crying mess with my legs a kimbo..
Any help greatly appreciated!!

I have had it.

I am not going to lie; it hurt a lot.

HOWEVER I know other women who have had it and just found it a bit uncomfortable.

My advice would be to take someone with you who can drive you home if you possibly can. I hope it isn't painful for you.

I had a hycosy, so quite similar. I felt like I had quite bad period pain when I had it done, so not too bad, just quite uncomfortable. But a friend who also had it done said she was in quite a lot of pain.

I did get quite dizzy after though, which can be a side effect. Maybe have someone who can drive for you after just in case.

yes it does hurt and your dizzy afterwards, my friend took me and luckily she did as she had to drive back as i really wasn't feeling up to it and came home and fell asleep afterwards too, so glad i told work that i wouldn't be back as well1

I had this done, it didn't hurt me at the time but I did get some tummy ache afterwards. Nothing to write home about. I drove home n was fine.

The procedure was actually very dignified, the staff couldn't have been kinder n it was honestly something n nothing. Obviously from comments above it greatly varies woman to woman so hopefully urs will b similar to mine. Good luck!

Hi, i had this done last week and it really wasn't bad at all. The most uncomfortable bit was then then inserted the 'device' but i felt nothing at all when they used the dye. I kept waiting for the pain but luckily it never came and the whole thing was over in about 5 minutes.

I hope it goes smoothly for you too!

I've had an HSG which is an xray using dye. It was a bit uncomfortable - I never find anything involving a speculum very pleasant - but it was over in a couple of minutes and I liked watching the dye go up my remaining tube. I took a couple of neurofen an hour beforehand and was absolutely fine at work in the afternoon.

More recently I had a hycosy and that was not good, not because the procedure is awful but because the person doing it seemed to lack skill. I won't go onto massive detail, but what should take 5 mins took her an hour, and in the end she wrote (incorrectly) that my right tube was open, but I have had that one removed. So my only conclusion is that she was a total dud and that was why it hurt (excessive amounts of messing with my cervix). It didn't hurt enough to make me cry though! I did feel tired etc afterwards, so went off for hot chocolate with my friend instead of back to work.

Don't go in expecting pain - I don't think it should be much worse than a smear. These things are better if you can relax. Take some painkillers and hour before and it should be over quickly.

I had a hycosyg. It was quite painful but not horrific. I don't think I cried. The worst bit for me was that I ignored the safety warnings on the antibiotics they gave me, went out in the sun, and got dreadful prickly heat Smile.

The best bit was that I got pg immediately afterwards after 18 months of trying despite DH's shocking sperm count. Grin

Anecdotally, this is not uncommon, so don't let your DH out of your sight for the next month.

I've not had it done, but have also heard of loads of folk who got their BFP straight after they had this done.

Just out of interest, my GP is sending me for investigations if we still haven't conceived after 6 months (4 cycles to go, but I always plan ahead). Do you need to have your legs in stirrups, as I have a leg problem which means I can't do that with my left leg at the moment, though doing everything I can to improve my range of motion so I can at least try for a 'natural' birth

I know the OP has been answered but wanted to give my experience for anyone else who may read this. I had a HSG and found it painful for a minute or 2 when she injected the dye but otherwise fine. Bled a little for a while afterwards and then it was over, so definitely worth doing for the peace of mind that your womb/ tubes are ok Smile I liked seeing everything on the screen too!

Lilygirl- I heard that too and was a little disappointed not to get a BFP in the months following it, as I had lots of strange discharge for about a week after the test, like everything had been cleared out in my system! I haven't had to have my legs in stirrups for any of the tests I've had done, they usually just ask you to have your feet on the hospital bed. Good luck, hopefully you will get your BFP before then x
