what i wanted to know is someone told me if i continue TTC while on this medication i could result in multiple pregnanacy is this true

also if i was to take a pg test whiule on these tablets would the result be accurate for example could it give me a false positive

hope someone can help otherwise il have to embaress myself in the chemist

I think this particular person was confusing northisterone with clomid (two very different drug treatments). Infact with northisterone a barrier method of contraception should be used.

As well as being used in endometriosis, it can also treat heavy, frequent periods and pms and can postpone menstruation. It is generally started on the 5th day of yoru period (after a negative pg test) and taken continuously for 4-6 months at the lowest dose necessary to stop your periods. Periods usually return within 4 to 8 weeks after treatment, although when the drug is used in short courses a period like bleed occurs within 2 to 3 days of stopping the tablets.

If you've had bad pain and confusing cycles for a while now I would actually ask the GP for a referral to a gynae. Northisterone is all very well but it does not do anything to address why this is happening in the first place.

hi Atilla

thanx for your reply i am still a little confused by my gp though

she knows that i have been ttc and that i was previuosly on depo for 2 years which only ran out in may and that i have been ov testing since july without any +ve results

i also understand that it can take up to a year for normal fertilty to return ater being on the depo jab but my gp lead me to believe that this medication was to start off my ovulation and to get me into a normal cycle/routine

also what i dont understand is if this medication is used to prevent ovulation (which i discovered from the paper work)why would i need to use an addtional method of contraception

and would it be posible to get a false pregnancy result whilst on this medication

Norethisterone increases the thickness of this mucus making it more difficult for sperm to cross from the vagina into the womb. By preventing sperm entering the womb, successful fertilisation of an egg, leading to pregnancy, is less likely. Norethisterone also acts to change the quality of the womb lining (endometrium). This prevents the successful implantation of a fertilised egg onto the wall of the womb, thereby preventing pregnancy. Norethisterone may also prevent the release of an egg from the ovary, however, this may not occur in all women who take the mini-pill.
