Hi

Sorry for being so graphic but today is the first time I have seen what I think is this egg white type discharge. I haven't really been paying attention before now but we'd like to TTC no 2 in Jan but I haven't had a cycle DD was conceived (she's 9 months)

So, can you remind me what the egg white type stuff means? Could I be ovulating soon?

Thanks!

Lucy

It means that your oestrogen levels are high, which in turn means there's a good likelihood that you'll be ovulating soon (although "soon" is a bit of a flexible term -- could be one day or several, and in your particular circumstances you might have a few patches like this before you actually ovulate). It also, conveniently enough, provides a good environment for sperm.

egg white mucus is evidence that your body is gearing up to ovulate. Most people exp it for a few days. The final day will have the most mucus and is an indicator that ovulation is about to happen. The mucus disappears then pretty quickly. Hope this helps. Good luck!

it means you should go at it like a buffalo in season!

sweetkitty · 23/11/2006 12:28

lol @ buffalo in season

I've been getting this type of discharge for the past few days as well (DD2 is 10 months not had a period since March 05) I have had so much of it thought I was actually having a period (sorry if TMI) keep wondering when my periods will return, maybe I will have the answer 2 weeks from now.

Thanks everyone

LOL @ Pesme's comments about buffalos!!

So, is it usually 2 wks after ovulation that you ovulate? (the "two week wait")

Thanks
Lucy

No ovulation IS when you ovulate - 2 weeks later is when your period starts if you are not pregnant

Tutter · 23/11/2006 12:44

also to add - sperm survives for longer in qood quality and quantity of ewcm

there are loads of tip[s abotu increasing ewcm but def worth avoiding alcohol (dehydrates) and antihistamines (ditto)

i swaer by flaxseed oil - worked for me twice

brimfull · 23/11/2006 12:52

go at it like a rabbit now ,for the next week or so.

good luck

"No ovulation IS when you ovulate - 2 weeks later is when your period starts if you are not pregnant"

Unfortunately the second part of the above assertion is not correct. Ovulation does not always occur two weeks before your period starts. Ovulation is not an exact science and a woman can ovulate earlier, later or not at all in any given cycle. It is also therefore quite possible to have periods without ovulating.

KTeepee · 23/11/2006 12:59

Well I should have said "approximately" obviously - was just trying to be helpful to make sure she didn't think she would be ovulating when she would not be.

poppynic · 23/11/2006 13:01

"If it's dry the sperm will die. If it's wet a baby you'll get." (I was told this little ditty at a natural fertility session.)

lemonaid · 23/11/2006 13:09

Period will start normally 10-16 days after ovulation (if you have ovulated that cycle). The number of days will normally remain pretty constant for one woman i.e. if your period starts 12 days after ovulation one month, you can expect it to do the same thing the next month but will vary between different women.

Of course, you can have some weird cycles from time to time, and some conditions will give you phases that are shorter than 10 days or longer than 16 days, so it's hard to say anything with 100% certainty.

Lucy1977 · 23/11/2006 13:13

Doh, sorry that was a major typo! I did mean was it 2 wks after ovulation that you get your period!

DD was on my lap at the time.. that's my excuse!

It's all very odd isn't is, not an exact science I would just keep BD every 2-3 days regardless of whether it's "ovulation" time or not.

DD1 was conceived on CD11, DD2 CD19 well that was the only two days we BD on those months. I tried all the OPKs etc became quite obsessive , decided to relax and forget about it until after Christmas and you guessed it DD1 was the result of a midweek quickie.

Best of luck x

pesme, pmsl at your answer

Lucy1977 · 23/11/2006 15:41

SK - yes our DD as conceived when we were just giving my body a break from the pill so would like to go with the flow as much as possible this time round.

Due to age gaps I don't want to get pregnant before January so we're being carefuk at the moment
