I had one under GA about 4 yrs ago. Dead easy op and recovery, although mine was keyhole surgery so I have no button left in my belly button! Worst bit was getting the stitches out! They also got rid of some endo. 4 months later was successfully pregnant with dd. I was dreading it too, but it really was no problem.

Get the mint tea in - it really helped me to burp eliminate the gassy pain after my lap and dye.
Good luck Flowers.

I'm having a lap in a few weeks so can give more info. I'm also very very nervous. When is yours?x

littlek86 · 02/07/2015 22:39

Thanks for the comments. Xx

I am on a waiting list now. I mean the reality is that it's probably totally fine, it's just the thought isn't it. We have been offered Ivf already but I'm telling myself this is a positive step to take first. I don't want to get to ivf without knowing that all easier routes have been explored and ruled out. And by the sounds of it....loads of people get pregnant after it?! Who knew!!

How long have you been ttc for? (Flatwhite)

Oh good luck! Do you have any symptoms of anything or is it just to explore fertility factors?

We've been trying 7/8 cycles. I'm having the lap quite quickly because of other symptoms which are really getting in the way of my life (huge pain when having sex to the point where we sometimes have to give up, general pelvic pain, agony at certain times of the month when passing stool to the point where I'm crying/almost throwing up). Unfortunately in my case they're certain they'll find something, it's just a case of what (probably ends) & how extensive that is.

Hopefully if you don't have any symptoms they won't find anything to worry about...or it'll be mild and can be sorted there and then Smile

littlek86 · 03/07/2015 06:42

Oh bless you, that sounds tough.

Have they given a lot of test to rule other things out yet?

Sending well wishes, that sounds like you're going through a tough time xx

Re your comment:-

"I'm having the lap quite quickly because of other symptoms which are really getting in the way of my life (huge pain when having sex to the point where we sometimes have to give up, general pelvic pain, agony at certain times of the month when passing stool to the point where I'm crying/almost throwing up)".

That all sounds like endometriosis being the cause. (Its the second most common gynae problem seen in women after fibroids). Deep pain during sex is particularly suggestive of endo being present.

The worst thing I found about the lap was the post operative pain in the shoulders (the CO2 gas used to get a better view of the organs travels upwards). I found that painkillers did take the edge off it but it was very painful for some hours a day or so post op. I was also advised to take 2 days off work post op.

I can put up a list of questions to ask them post operation (and BTW they should NOT talk to you about the lap when in the recovery room as this is bad practice). Ideally you should have an appointment a week or so later to properly go through the operation and its findings.

FlatWhiteToGo · 04/07/2015 10:02

LittleK86 - I've not had many tests, just an ultrasound that didn't show anything (which is good). They need to do the lap to diagnose endometriosis - there's no other way of accurately diagnosing it. How about you? Have you had many tests? That's great that you've been offered IVF. I know it's scary an not ideal, but at least it improves your chances and gives you options. How long would you have to wait?

Steph - BLUE BUM? WTF?! Nobody has told me about that Grin. Are you ok now? Did you have endo or something? That's amazing that you got your BFP, and so quickly! I hope everything worked out for you following the BFP x

Attila - Yes, the consultant basically said it's almost certainly endo, but they obviously need to do the lap to confirm and see how extensive it is. Do you have endo then? You sound very knowledgeable! When did you have yours? Yes - questions would be really helpful, in case there's something I hadn't thought of. I want to ask things like: How quickly can we TTC, when can I start going to the gym etc but am worried this would be frowned upon!

littlek86 · 06/07/2015 13:46

I've had all the usual tests, bloods a days 2-6, day 21 etc and was offered the IVF about a year ago after a scan that showed both my tubes were blocked... but I don't really want to go down that road without ruling out potentially simpler problems.

Having acupuncture now and seeing a nutritionist - both of whom think that if the blockages are inflammatory rather than scaring that you can treat with other remedies... I must say the acupuncture does definitely feel as though it is having a real effect...its crazy!

FX it works for you! Good luck with the various alternative remedies, tests and, if it comes to it, the IVF.

Hi there, I had a lap and dye on tues this week and am just recovering now. It wasn't so bad, just feeling a little bruised and tender at the moment. Feel free to ask any questions.

littlek86 · 17/07/2015 20:29

Hey Tilly,

Thanks for your message.

Did it all go ok?

What is your ttc story?

Have you got the outcome yet from the L&D? x

tillyann2013 · 18/07/2015 08:17

Hi there, yes it all went okay thank you. We've got a 5 year old, conceived naturally after about 6 months. No problems or issues bar an emergency section. Been ttc for 4 years now but not a hint of anything. Been on clomid, timed intercourse and iui's but nothing at all. Had a lap early 2014 and revealed the right tube had a blockage. We were just gearing up to start ivf when consultant advised he'd like to remove right tube as he felt that as it was blocked it could be affecting implantation. So went in tues to have it removed but they didn't in the end! Lap revealed that the tube was stuck to uterus with scar tissue so after sorting that the tube itself is fine. That's it in a nutshell. Do you have a date for yours yet?

littlek86 · 19/07/2015 19:45

Ah good, so that was a good outcome. Yes mine is in 3 weeks or so. So do you mean they told you before the lap and dye that the tube was blocked? Did they diagnose that with a HyCoSy? Or Did you have external and internal scan before?

I had HyCoSy which diagnosed two blocked tubes after trying for a few years.
I'm actually really looking forward to it, need to progress.
The good thing about L&D is that I guess it's relatively simple, and whilst they are in there they can fix various things.

Did you have endo then?

Did they just advise to crack on TTC as soon as you feel like it? Did they give you answers there and then? Also did they say before operation what they were planning on doing if things were discovered? Like if we see X,Y,Z we will do these things there and then?

Thanks for the advice x

tillyann2013 · 21/07/2015 20:57

Sorry littlek86, just seen that you had replied. My blockage was diagnosed by a previous lap and also by seeing fluid on the internal scan.

I hope yours goes well, mine wasn't even a week ago and I feel fine now. Best of luck x

littlek86 · 25/08/2015 14:21

So I had the lap and dye, and best possible outcome...they unblocked both tubes! I recovered really well, its really nothing to worry about is it.

Hoping for your kinda luck @steph0616 hoping Sept we get lucky!

x
