Hi all. New here and looking for your thoughts please. I'm going to be 32 in 6 months and for the past ten years have been really unsure If I want children and DH said he would go either way (my decision) I was torn between deciding for a promotion at work (additional stress but also at the back of my mind I was thinking about how I would want to commit to doing it for at least 2 years and the thought of children was on my mind).

The interview is tomorrow and I have woken up in a tizz thinking I should pull out of the interview as I may want to try for a baby!! I'm in with a good chance of getting the job and I'm not the type of person to get a promotion, only do it for a year and then go on maternity. I've agonised for years about knowing if I want a child and maybe this is the sign I've been waiting for?

On the other hand if we did decide to TTC who knows how long it would take. My cycle is irregular so it could be years. DH is away and not back until this evening so I can't discuss with him. My age is also on my mind and feel as though it may be now or never (as if we did conceive I think I would want 2 children)..... feel so confused! Any thoughts from anyone? Thank you.

Thank you everybody. And the results are in.......

I didn't get it. Mixed feelings about it really, miffed that they didn't think I was up to it but also relieved as won't have the extra stress. I'm glad that I interviewed and my line manager said I did well (I'll get more feedback next week) and he hinted at something coming up in the future) Will see what happens. Thanks for the direction from you all yesterday x

Well done on doing a good interview :)

That always stands to you even if you don't get the job in question.

Sorry you missed out this time Flowers

Ah I'm sorry to hear that shouldI.

Good to hear that you could have another shot though, go for it! In a way, at least it gives you time to think about TTC if that's what you want. You can really decide now, I guess, if you get what I mean? Or you can decide whether you want to wait until after your next interview with another job that might be in the pipeline. As mean as it sounds, and I don't mean it to sound mean, not in any way shape or form, but I guess it leaves your head a bit clearer now when it comes to making decisions on a baby because you haven't got the pressure of the promotion baring down on you.

What ever you choose will be the right decision, because nobody's decisions are ever the same. It's what's right for you x

Thank you. No, not mean at all butterfly :) I actually thought the same thing. Wondered if it is a 'sign'!! I can keep thinking on the baby front without needing to think about the responsibilities the new job would have brought.

I hope you get what you what but you said before that you only feel like you're here to reproduce..... that's not your only worth so don't do yourself down butterfly. I'm sure you have plenty to offer. Like you said each to their own but sometimes it takes a little while to figure out what we want to give and do with our lives x

Read " Lean in" by Sheryl Sandberg and/ or listen to her TED talk on the subject. She strongly advocates not stepping back from work opportunities when you decide to TTC. It' s an excellent read.
