Egg Freezing at 40! Please help :)

Hi, I am very new to this, so please excuse my ignorance on the matter :) I just turned 40 and was thinking of freezing some eggs. I understand that I am pushing the age limit, but hope to try anyway. Does anyone have any recommendations/reviews of London Clinics? At present I am looking at Create, The Bridge Centre, Lister and London Women's Clinic? ANY ADVICE WOULD BE SO APPRECIATED! Not just price, but general treatment quality/success? In addition, another thread mentioned Ovarian Reserve Testing- can this be done on the NHS or must it be part of the initial consultation/tests for approx £350-400?
Thanks so much!!!

Hi Lailani,

I can't comment on specifically which clinic to go to for egg freezing, but I would encourage you to do as much research as possible in your decision making. The chat boards are useful, but also the clinics themselves, publications etc. Stats should be available on success rates, broken down by age. Egg freezing is much less common than embryo freezing so data may be limited.

You can have a blood test to estimate your ovarian reserve (the AMH test) which in my county is about £100 done privately and can be done as a stand alone test. There is also an ultrasound for egg reserve (antral follicle count). Not sure how much this costs or the availability.

My advice is learn as much as you can so you can make informed choices, understanding the benefits and limitations of whatever you end up deciding upon. All the best.

Hi Ouchie

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. It really is a mindfield out there with so much varying information. I was thinking of taking the tests independently but didn't know where to start- perhaps a visit to my local GP.

Thanks again! :)

Hello girls, I agree with Ouchie, unfortunately sources of information are very limited. Lucky you, as I understood from forums eggs freezing has been available for a couple of years in GB. In Poland you can freeze only in one fertility clinic. I spend much time checking variuos info. Although a clinic says success rate is high and cost is not expensive, I would like to confirm (or not) the info before ending up with the final decision.
