Ovulation tests are they reliable?

Hi

We are TTC and I have the grumblings that would indicate I'm about to ovulate but all the tests ( sainsburys and Wilkinsons) are negative. Are these tests reliable? I didn't use them for my previous pregnancies. I'm a regular 28 day cycle kinda girl. Been using the tests for two months.

Ivd only ever used the Clear Blue digital ones, but they were amazingly accurate and I fell pregnant within the first month, and subsequently pregnant within 2 months of using them the second time. they are about £30 a pop for a month supply, but did the job!
Good luck. Hope this is your month.

Yes I think they are, although maybe try a few different ones?

I found the boots ones first thing in the morning did the job for me! The Clear Blue ones indicated a rise way to early so we were exhausted DTD too early.

Perhaps get lots of the internet cheapie ones and test a few times a day when you think it's looking likely, they will show up the LH surge and be as reliable as any if done at the right time.

Interesting you say Clear Blue Digital indicate too early. I got a big rise in temperature today, went to my acupuncturist who told me I am ovulating (I know many dont believe in this but anyway..) and did an internet cheapie and a Clear Blue Digital just earlier. The digital was negative and the cheapie seems to be positiv..ish - the lines are nearly the same colour. I know the second line is meant to be darker. I find the cheapies very helpful for indicating how close ovulation is.

I was using a period tracker app on my phone and some cheap ovulation tests. I spent 6 months ttc and got nowhere. The first month I bought the Clear Blue ovulation test I discovered that I ovulated much earlier than I'd thought. And I fell pregnant on the first attempt. Although they are pricey, they were much more effective for me. Worth every penny in my opinion.

Well I have just done the Clear Blue digital test again this afternoon at the same time as a cheapie and they both show ovulation - a smiley face on the digital and a darker second line on the cheapie. It is the first time I have used the Clear Blue digital ovulation test and I cant believe how pleased I am that they both say the same result at the same time! I wasn't ever sure about the cheapies as you hear a lot for/against them!

IMO no they are not reliable as they can show up positive but you may not be ovulating. The only thing that can tell you 100% that you definitely ovulated is a rise in temperature.

In my case the OPKs always showed up negative but I got a temp rise. I am now pregnant so if I had trusted them I would have assumed I wasn't ready to O yet!

That being said they can be useful for many people, just bear in mind they don't actually detect ovulation, just that your body is gearing up to O.

Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences, it has helped me a lot. I've bought a sealed and BNIB Clearblue Ovulation Monitor from eBay as it was £70 cheaper than buying it from the pharmacist. I've been on the pill since I was 15 due to hormonal imbalances (six week long periods are not fun) so I have no idea what my natural cycle is like. I'm 31 years old and clueless! I'm hoping as I've gotten older my hormones have sorted themselves out.

The kit says to have two cycles after you stop the pill before you start testing but I'm interested in knowing now! I'm looking to conceive towards the end of the year and want to know if my cycles are normal so I can consult professionals when the time comes if necessary. I've seen my GP who doesn't think there will be a problem but I'm hoping the OPKs will help inform me and give me some accuracy.

I got pregnant the day I got my first EVER positive OPT. I had been ttc for years but only using the OPT's for about 6 months. Never got a positive til the day before DH went away for a fortnight. I managed to get pregnant that very afternoon Blush. So imo they work!
