Ttc baby at 39 after a big gap

I have 3 dc youngest is 6 and a half. Always wanted 4 or 6 dc but after 3 dc under my broodiness lifted after the 3rd was born. Last 2 years have felt broody but also too worried about mc and other complications due to age and pushing our luck after 3 healthy dc/good births.
However after much thought and discussion i think we are going to try.

With my 3dc i conceived within 3 months each time. I am presuming this time it will take longer and i know risk of mc higher.
Anyone else had a big gap then had another around my age that can share their experience? Or ttc in similar circumstances?

Hello inmyshoos I'm in a very similar situation...I've been broody for what feels like forever! I have 2 dc (12, 13) yes I know they are very close in age and if I'd know that my fertility was going to slow right down at the age of 40 I would have taken a longer career break. Anyway I/we really want to a have another baby but how long it will take is beginning to make me wonder if we need to visit the GP? Anyway please do share your thoughts and experiences x

From a slightly different perspective - my mum did. I was nearly 15, twins of nearly 13 and then she had my little sister. I loved having a baby sister around - I learnt the real work involved in having a baby (so didn't have my first until 40 :)), could be the cool big sister and take her to the cinema, gigs, etc as she grew up and now we are the closest of all 4 of us. She is a brilliant auntie to my two and we just enjoy each other's company.
Not sure if that helps but thought I'd share.
Good luck :)

Thanks for your replies guys. oliveisme are you 40 now? Do you have ds or dd at moment and how do they feel about having a young sibling? My 3 would love a baby ds esp would love a brother. Have you been ttc or still thinking about it?

feetheart thank you, it is always nice to hear from the childs perspective. I have a friend with a sister 14 years younger and they have such a lovely relationship. How old was your Mum when she had your sister?

inmyshoes - she was 39. My granny was 42 when she had my uncle (my mum's brother) and I was 40 and 43 when I had my two so older mums seem to run in the family :)

Hello inmyshoos and feetheart ?? lovely to hear your story feetheart about your relationship with your siblings. Inmyshoos I have one ds and one dd. We don't talk all the time about having a new baby but every so often they will both say...wish we had a brother or sister or both!! I am 40 and generally in good health. Wish I had or would make time to exercise more but I do what I can. I have been taking Folic for a few weeks and have also more recently purchased Wellman vits for my hubby. And that's the story so far....look forward to hearing you.

oliveisme I bought folic acid yesterday!! Although i swear my menstrual cycle has suddenly started playing tricks on me. I had spotting mon/tues assumed af on way and nothing since. Now i think actually af not due for a week so no idea whats going on!! Typical!
I would have loved my mum to have a baby when i was 12/13!
I feel weirdly excited and motivated to have a 4th. Feel like i have never ever been able to say I am definitely done having dc. I would not for example have wanted dh to have a vasectomy. Also i have a tear in the muscle between vagina/rectum that i could have repaired but only once i am absolutely finished and couldnt say i was absolutely sure so left it. But i was swaying towards being finished rather than not. Now i know dh up for a fourth and we have talked/thought about it I am hyper!! So much for throwing caution to the wind and see what happens!
Is your user name your real name? If so you share a name with my dd.

feetheart Most women in my family had their babies in their early 20's. I am so encouraged to hear about woman having babies into their 40's! Thank you!

Hello princesscupcakemum nice to hear another success story of having a baby in your 40s! How did you feel growing up - I mean was your mum older than her peer group? What was it like for her for example at play group? (Apologies for the Qs)! I'm looking forward to being an older mum for many reasons. I'm wiser. More mature. And don't sweat the small stuff!! Inmyshoos no Its my user name and prob more to do with my complexion although it is a beautiful name!! Have been out today at a friends who has a baby and my daughter was very happy playing with this 1 year old! Made me secretly happy Smile Have you spoken to your doctor about having another baby? I did a while ago but that was after having a very early miscarriage (didn't know I was pregnant).
