Any experience of low progesterone?

I'm hoping someone might be able to advise...

I have 2 DD's, aged 5 & 3, and before DD1 I had 7 mc's, all before 8.5 weeks. We had full genetic testing etc, to give the NHS credit we had an amazing experience with miscarriage care and also investigations into recurrent mc. All bloods etc came back fine

Then for DD1 I took progesterone supplements, and first cycle took these I carried her full term, no problems at all. I took the supplements till 12 weeks. I had done some research and asked my GP for them and she was happy to try it.

Then DD2 was a very wonderful surprise - we honestly didn't think it could happen without any supplements. Carried her full term, no problems at all, took no progesterone supplements.

In December we decided to start trying for our third and final baby. I assumed, obviously naively, that whatever it was that was wrong was fine now because of DD2. Since then we have had 2 chemical pregnancies. And I took a break, now thinking about trying again - mainly to a 'whoopsie' moment yesterday!

I'm wondering if I should hot foot it down to the GP and ask for progesterone pessaries for the rest of this cycle or just leave it?

Does anyone have inexperience of low progesterone? Or taken it for some pregnancies and not others?

Thanking you Flowers

Hi

I'm so sorry to hear of your losses, I'm currently going through my 3rd MC in a row down to what I believe is low progesterone. I've just been referred to the reoccurring miscarriage clinic in June.

I have a DD who is 13 months old and I believe I conceived her and carried to term simply because I'd been on the pill and my progesterone levels were balanced at the time, I conceived her a month after coming off Marvelon. I've always had a hormone imbalance which is why I was on the pill to begin with.

I had some bloods done last week and I only had a progesterone level of 11ng/ml when I should be nearly 9 weeks along. an U/S showed another blighted ovum.

Can I ask you how you found the progesterone supplements with DD1?

I think it's great that you're trying again even if it was a 'whoopsie' moment that has started it off again :) I would get in touch with your Doc ASAP especially if you get a BFP as a blood test will show up your progesterone levels and at 4/5 weeks gestation, if you need a supplement apparently its not too late to start taking one. That's just from what I've read.

Did you do any OPK this cycle? Do you think there is a high chance that you could fall pregnant this cycle?

I don't seem to have any problems ovulating or getting pregnant but I have a problem getting the little bean passed the 5/6 weeks mark or getting it attached to the placenta. I had a chemical pregnancy back in August, a BO that didn't get picked up until I was 13 weeks gone in November and now this BO picked up at 9 weeks. Unfortunately my HCG levels are high so my body doesn't realize that the pregnancy has failed. This is why I am thinking the low progesterone could be the cause.

Sorry to waffle on, Please let me know if you get your BFP this month and also how things go with the doc

Hi Toadie,

thanks so much for your lovely message.

I am so, so sorry for your losses FlowersFlowersFlowers

It sounds like it would definitely be worth you having progesterone blood tests throughout the month - I think it is day 14 and day 21 bloods? Make sure they do this rather than just blood clotting/genetic markers.

I was spurred on to push my GP for progesterone as I have terrible pmt, I can literally feel the progesterone draining. I knew each time I MC'd as I could feel the sudden, huge hormone drop. I just had to wait to bleed. And also all my MC's were about the time it would have been due to low progesterone. I think if you had low progesterone results then your gp should be able to prescribe it really. I was given pessaries to insert up the vag (nice) from CD15, or just after ovulation. I used OPKs but also felt ovulation each month which helped. I think you have to be fairly certain you have ovulated or it can inhibit ovulation, like the progesterone pill.

It was, well, messy... And I had to try and time sex a fair way off - it makes for white, lumpy vaginal fluids after you insert it... I would definitely invest in some panty liners!

We had our 'whoopsie' on CD10 so it is fairly unlikely I would get pregnant. Unless we decided to do it again, but my husband is working away 'till Friday, CD14...

We have just moved house, I will try and switch GP's as quickly as possible, hopefully they can fit me in soon.

How are you feeling about trying again? Your GP may be able to do progesterone blood tests on your next cycle.

Hugs.
