Hi all,

I'm currently TTC and have been asked to go to Alton Towers in a couple of weeks. I absolutely love big roller coasters and the people I am going with know this, so will expect me to go on them. However, I'm wondering whether I should go? I am due to take a pregnancy test the day before I will be going to Alton Towers, so if I do get pregnant I'll be four weeks gone (from the first day of my last period). Can roller coasters cause damage at that early stage do you think? If so, I'll make my excuses and not go. However, I'll be gutted if I say I can't go and then find out I'm not pregnant and could have gone anyway! Hmmm... I'm sure I'm over thinking this...!

If any of you have advice, I'd be really grateful to hear it.

Thank you!

Take your test and if negative you should go, it'll be fine.

A friend of mine went to alton towers with me and a few others when she was 13 weeks and went on all the roller coasters and rides and her baby was fine

Thank you both for responding Smile
It's a tricky one- on the one hand, the rides aren't suitable for pregnant women, but on the other hand if I am pregnant I'd be only a few days past implantation... Hmmm

Don't put your life on hold. Trust me I have missed out on so much in first 12m ttc. Now on m19 still not preggo. Wine tasting, festivals, gigs just because I thought 'Yes but I may be pre then...' I'm doing EVERYTHING now...should I be lucky enough to get a BFP ill just need to make it work! So go for it! And if you are you just need to fake a new found fear of big rides!!!!

Is it Alton Towers saying that the rides aren't suitable for pregnant women? If so, they may just be covering themselves in case a pregnant woman goes on a ride and something goes wrong. It is a balance and a personal choice - my gut reaction is that it will probably be fine as the baby will be very small and it's not like you have a bump that can get knocked and you won't be over-exerting yourself. You may get an adrenaline rush but I haven't heard of that causing a miscarriage. I can't really see what could go wrong, but then I'm not a doctor.

I think the worry is belts and bars jerking on a pregnant belly. I'd be surprised if there was any risk in early pregnancy and I would still go as the majority of rides will be fine even if you skip the ones that say not suitable for early pregnancy....but then I came off a motorbike in the depths of Africa and knocked myself out in early pregnancy with #1 so what do I know.

Thanks for all your responses, much appreciated! I think I'll go and avoid all the worst rides. It's probably completely hypothetical even thinking about this as we've been trying for 7 months and no luck yet...!

Thank you all Smile
