hi all, I did a blue dye test, took it apart and there was a line where the result would be, but the control line had disappeared, there is just an evap line there now, so Im wondering am I pregnant or not

Why did you take the test apart? You shouldn't take tests apart. It invalidates the results. A disappearing control line is also a sign of a failed test. The two may be related. You need to disregard the result and use a different test. Don't dismantle it.

it doesn't invalidate the results, lots of people do it, there are apps and websites to help you do it, it's also how I got all my previous positives which turned into very real children. please don't tell me what to do I'm a grown woman.

I have taken tests apart to study them many times after 7 years and 4 ivfs, there's a test I think it's a clearblue, when in the past I have cracked them open and it looks like a false positive once opened, so I'm always cautious to now. I still do though! Good luck

honeysucklejasmine · 19/04/2015 22:07

Wow. And you want advice?

No control line = invalid result.

Test again tomorrow.

There are websites which telling you how to do all sorts of things. This doesn't mean it's recommended. I apologise for trying to help:

"36. Should I take my test apart to see the line(s) more clearly? No. Removing the test from its plastic case changes the test's exposure to air and humidity. Air and humidity affect the manner and rate at which the dye and chemicals cross the test. If you change the environment before the test is finished, you risk drying it out too quickly and when a test dries too quickly, the dye may dry in places it would not have otherwise making an evap line appear to be a positive result. Additionally, the tests are intended to be used and read while intact. If you think you see a line, but it is so faint you really can't tell, it's probably an evap line and should be considered negative.

Please note: pregnancy tests will work almost anywhere-- the problem is not the amount of air or humidity in general, but changing it in the middle. HPT's are scientific little things, and to achieve greatest accuracy, the environment should not be changed while the test is running.

If you want to photograph or scan your test for posterity (or for posting to your message board buddies for opinions ;) it can be easier when removed from its plastic casing (to eliminate glare.) If your test is positive, go for it! If it's negative, or you're not sure, you're in a tough spot . . . removing the test from its casing while the test is still wet can "speed-dry" an evap line and make it darker/harder to interpret. But tests are not completely dry at the 10-minute time limit; by the time they dry, the test has passed the 10-minute limit and should not be read. If you think you'll be in conundrum, use a dip-style test or remove the test from its casing before you apply urine. "

Every test I've ever used that is inside a case specifically said in the instructions not to dismantle. I'm sorry my advice wasn't what you wanted.

Goodness, what a rude response to someone who was trying to help (and giving pretty sound advice incidentally).

Number3cometome · 20/04/2015 09:55

Do another test and fix your attitude whilst you are at it or don't ask for advice.

twinklestarr · 20/04/2015 12:23

Oh dear. This is the problem with the internet, there's always a couple of people who think they can say what they like in as rude a manner as they like because they are hiding behind a screen. If you actually read my msg, and the one before it you will see that I politely (said please, no swearing no insults), requested that the aforesaid person did not speak to me in such a rude abrupt manner. There are ways of saying things that don't come across as bossy and abrupt. Thank you to those who gave a considered and friendly response. This is the last I will post on this I'm not interested in back and forth rude posts.

twinkle - I think you should read your last post and take your own advice

Lauren83 · 20/04/2015 12:29

It did read pretty rude to be honest, I didn't have a go but I do think you were rude

AuntieDee · 20/04/2015 13:15

OP the only one who has been rude on the thread is you. You were offered some advice and responded in a rude manner

Number3cometome · 20/04/2015 14:30

Leave her to it - she won't get much help on mumsnet with an attitude like that. And as for hiding behind screens, pot kettle comes to mind.
