After 15+ years of predictability AF has gone orf on one...

Ok, so, I started my periods as normal and except for a few years of dodgy teenage hormones I have been regular as clockwork every since. I was on the pill for c.10 years (not since 2010 though). The last four years have been predictable too - I know when I was ovulating, knew when I was coming on, knew when I was going to finish, knew what my glow would be like on any given day and now, suddenly, BAM AF has gone bonkers. We've been TTC for about sixth months and not one of those have followed any pattern. Cycles have been anything from 18-44 days. No obvious reason for change (eg. Stress, weight change). Out of desperation I bought myself some of those ovulation test strips from Amazon... And they showed me nothing, according to them I didn't ovulate - despite the fact that I'm still getting periods. Help, what's going on?

First question is how old are you? Second is have you seen the GP yet?

I just turned 30. I would have thought I was too young for the menopause. There's no family history of early (quite the opposite in fact). I have no pain, no change in anything other than my periods. I haven't made a doctors appointment no, I suppose I'm probably being a bit head in the sand about it.

Do you have any symptoms consistent with PCOS? I'm not suggesting you have entered menopause at 30 but you might not be ovulating due to another reason and that could be the explanation for erratic periods.

I would make an appointment with the GP and get the ball rolling re. testing.

No symptoms (according to the NHS website) of PCOS - except suddenly erratic periods. Would PCOS suddenly come though?

I imagine it would be a slow creep. The point is you need to do something now to find out if you are ovulating and if you aren't then there are medications to bring on ovulation such as Clomid.

The GP will do a day 3/day 21 test to check your hormones. Tell them you have been TTC for over a year and you should be fine.

Good luck!

Hi you can still have af and not ovulate. If you are ovulating on a longer cycle you would ovulate later in your cycle and on a shorter one you would ovulate earlier. Are you taking note of your other fertility signs such as cm as that can give you a lot of information. Typically the closer you get to ovulation the more eggwhite/ watery the cm gets, it then dries up for a few days, you will have a pattern that is typical for you . There is a book called taking charge of your fertility by toni weshler which has lots of information in it. I would be tempted to chart as that would give you a lot more information but it does not suit everybody.
