Hello everyone

New to this site been reading a while.

We have been ttc for a year, really concentrating on ovulation timings since Aug/14 and as yet no BFP (but 2 BFN for late Af)

I've just booked an appt with a doctor but don't know if I'm asking for help conceiving or test for fertility Or if it's too early to be worriworried.

Any one just gone through this or going through this tell me what to expect?

Nic

I think a year is what is suggested with regards to seeking help. Hope it goes well for you.

The answer to your question is of course, try not ever to worry! lol But it is hard. In general, doctors will be open to doing the first tests for infertility after you have been trying for a year, so I would get these done. I know from experience that it is a looooong process to figure out what, if anything, is going on and therefore whether you need help conceiving and so try hard just to go with the flow and continue to enjoy stress-free time with your partner, best you can.

First off, you will have blood tests done on day 21 of your cycle (if your cycle is 28 days, If it isn't, subtract 7 days from your cycle length and that is when you should go for these blood tests. You might not realise that doctor's can be a bit clueless on this point and assume we all have 28 day cycles!) This is measuring your progesterone levels, which are an indication of whether or not you are ovulating and the health of that ovulation.

Your partner should have a sperm analysis done quite quickly, as this is probably the most important factor. There are often medications that will boost ovulation or help regulate a cycle but the quality/ presence of sperm is difficult to treat.

Hope this helps and good luck! You will see another thread called something like "TTC for 10month, the BFP one" or something like that. Feel free to join us there for support on this kind of stuff.

Hi NikNak - I could have written your post! I've been ttc for 12 months and started monitoring ovulation in August! I have my first Doctors appointment on Tuesday and am unsure what to expect.

Its a nerve wracking time but I am trying to feel positive that going to see the Dr is a step in the right direction and at least if something is wrong then can do something about it. Good luck - keep us posted with how you get on x
