Hi everyone

My OH and I have been ttc since last August when I had a Mirena removed. Nothing's been happening and since I'm nearly 39 I thought I should get things checked out. I've been to see the GP twice and to be honest each time I've come away really upset.

The first time she immediately began going through my options for IVF "in case I'm veering towards the menopause" but told me I'm not eligible on the NHS. She booked me in for a blood test, which last week came back inconclusive so I've booked another one, although it seems hit or miss if you calculate the date right to have it done.

I saw her again on Tuesday and was really upset again. She seems to be assuming that there's a problem even though I've had no results and again told me that under the local health board's protocol I'm not eligible for any help at all beyond this blood test.

What I need to know is, have any of you come up against these protocols and how much leeway is there for fighting to get fertility testing done at least? If I do have to pay, I want to try to get this done asap, but what tests are the most useful?

Thanks and sorry if it sounds confused - I don't know any of the right wording or what the tests are called etc!

Deborah xx
