Hi everyone.
I am 33 and in Dec 2014 came out of a relationship. We had been TTC with no success and had got as far as being placed on IVF waiting list with unexplained infertility. We split up and I'm now single, full time employed in a well paid job and own my own house (well, mortgage in my name!)
I have thought long and hard and discussed it with my extensive support network and decided that when I get my IVF appointment through.... I'm going to attend and say I still want to go ahead but with donor sperm. Deep down being a mother is the only thing I've ever wanted so much and I'm ready to give all the love that I've got inside. Sounds cheesy but I bet you understand!
I know that my NHS trust does help single women and same sex couples.
If anyone has any experience of this situation I would dearly love to hear it! And hopefully find some others to share mutual support. Thank you and good luck all x
Pob

I don't have experience of this - but I wish I'd done it.

I'm now 44, and didn't meet the love of my life until I was 39. Although I'm still hoping we can become parents, you're bombarded with relentless messages of doom and gloom at my age... and in my personal experience, very little support from medical professionals.

Good luck to you - and good on you for taking things into your own hands.

MsP0b · 24/02/2015 20:11

Thanks gingham. Is nice to have a message of support.
I am guessing the deleted comment was someone on the other side of the ethical fence : / I guess I'm going to come across that a lot if I manage to do this.

I really don't understand people who can't just mind their own sodding business. Kids need love, and if you have love to give a child, then you'll be a good mum.

Ignore stupid people - what do they know? Keep positive, and do what you know is right.

juneybean · 27/02/2015 14:23

I'm only 29 but have always wanted a child much more than a relationship. Last year I had two DIUI treatments unfortunately both failed but IUI has a low success rate anyways without using frozen sperm!

I have no idea if my trust supports single women as I paid privately.

Good luck with it all :)

MsP0b · 28/02/2015 18:29

yes I've been wondering whether to go private for a shot at IUI, but success rates are v low aren't they. Sorry about your disappointment, really feel for you. Will you try again, or try IVF? Don't give up X

Good luck to you too gingham, with the old fashioned way! Enjoy x

You may find that you do not need ivf after all. It maybe just his sperm that was not compatable with you rather that you actually being infertile. Ai would be a much cheaper option if ivf is refused.

MsP0b · 01/03/2015 09:05

Yes good point. Should probably try AI first. I've had many tests and my fertility looks fine so AI probably first stop.

Just saving up and waiting..

I won't try again with IUI, it was too much money for too much stress and disappointment.

This month I tried home insemination with donor sperm (am on cd28 with a whole bunch of negative tests though...)

Good luck with whatever you choose, it's nice to hear from other single mothers by choice.

MsP0b · 02/03/2015 18:10

Yes it's great to meet someone else doing the same as me. You could still be pregnant but not showing up on tests yet at cd28 juneybean. Fingers crossed X
How does home insemination work? Did you buy sperm online or is a friend a donor? Good luck

I started getting spotting today so definitely think I'm out :(

This month I discovered cryos in denmark and they shipped the sperm to my home address (I would have done this last year instead had I known it wasn't illegal like I had been led to believe!)

It cost £500 converted for two straws which I did 24 hours apart.

This month I'll probably try and find a local donor, but we'll see!

MsP0b · 02/03/2015 19:39

Ah I see, v interesting. Good luck. Let us know how you get on xx

How did you get on, jb? X

Got my period on Tuesday :( and local donor turned out to be a dirty bastard sooo back to the drawing board for next week :/

How are you?

MsP0b · 10/03/2015 19:27

Boo : ( Sorry to hear about the period. So disappointing.
Glad you're not getting involved with the local donor if he's a sleaze.
I've got my appointment with the NHS fertility consultant at the end of the month... Only complication is, last time he saw me I was with my ex bf so this time I will need to break the news that I want to go ahead with fertility treatment but with a donor! They might just tell me to forget it. So so so hope they let me go through with it.

Don't lose heart you still have lots of chances x
