Should I make changes?

Hi all,

My husband and I have been TTC for 5 months now and I know it's not long at all but I'm wondering whether we need to make any changes and I'm hoping you wise ladies might be able to help me?

My BMI is 27.2 which is in the overweight category. I'm very healthy otherwise- I don't drink more than three alcoholic drinks per week, I swim twice a week and eat reasonably healthily. My husband is very slim and healthy. On a Friday and Saturday night he might have a few drinks totalling 6-8 units but he doesn't drink during the week. Very occasionally, if he's out with friends he'll have more of a binge, but that's rare.

Do you think I need to lose weight? Am I too overweight to conceive? Should we both quit drinking? I really don't want to make changes- I'm happy with my size and don't want to put our lives on hold and not have a few social drinks now and then as I know it may take many more months or years to conceive. However, we will make changes if we're decreasing our chances of conceiving.

I'm just wondering whether I should make these changes or just keep doing what we're doing...? This TTC business is very stressful isn't it? Hmm

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks Smile

The average couple TTC falls pregnant in 6 months, so I don't think you need to panic yet.
Have you tried using ovulation predictors to help you pinpoint your most fertile days?
Have you been advised by a doctor to lose weight? I don't know how much of a difference it makes as there's definitely pregnant ladies of w large build around. And drug addicts and alcoholics have babies so if they can do it I reckon carrying a few extra pounds around won't hurt!

How tall are you? If your short then that isn't a good bmi, but if your tall I don't think it's that bad..

I don't treat understand that Barbie as bmi is based on height as well as weight.

Thanks for the reassurance sizethree.. You're right, I think I'll give it a few more months before obsessing Wink

Thank you!

Also, BMI is based on height, so it is taken into consideration

Hi, we've been trying for over a year. I tried to convince myself that I don't need to change my lifestyle but getting worried as the biological clock is ticking (I'm 35). Been trying to read up to get as much advice as possible and recently read that if ur going for IVF they might not consider u if bmi is over 30, mine is 30 so has spurred me on to lose weight& get healthy. I think its worth improving diet at least, so am adding lots of nuts, fruit, veggies etc to diet & am going to massively reduce alcohol intake. Thankfully I don't smoke. I wish someone had told me to do ovulation tests from the beginning, now me & husband know when I am we're generally more amorous that week!!! My friend bought me the zita west book, which is very good for tips on everything fertility wise (a little preachy in parts but good all the same). Good luck, hope we all have some good news soonSmile
