Does anyone know if the Morning After Pill does any harm to the baby if it doesn't work?

No harm at all (there have been a couple of threads about this recently, and that's been the unanimous message that everyone's doctors have given and also the unanimous verdict of all the mothers of failed-MAP babies and older children).

It is just supposed to make it more difficult for the sperm to fertilise the egg, it can stop the egg being released if early enough and it also works by making it more difficult for the egg to attach to the uterus. It is actually safe to be taken during pregnancy, so won't cause harm to baby.

No, it's absolutely safe. What are you going to do now?
I know a few people with post-MAP babies who are absolutely the light of their lives.

WereWABBITT · 24/10/2006 01:03

I really worried about this after taking the MAP and then finding it hadn't worked

Perfect pregnancy and perfect baby boy who's now 13 months

So so so so so so happy it didn't work !!!!

AlfredAitchcock · 24/10/2006 01:27

erm, that's not strictly true, you know. sometimes the MAP can cause the pregnancy to implant in the wrong place, which means that it has to be removed either surgically or using a drug called methotrexate. it's very serious.

if, however, the pregnancy has made it successfully to the womb then afaik everything progresses normally thereafter.

I'm currently 8 weeks pg after the MAp failed - I was also reassured by the nurse who gave it to me, and lots of personal research online that it wouldn't have done any harm to the baby.,

My nephew is a MAP baby too! No probs there!

LizzieBG · 24/10/2006 08:40

Thanks all - that's v reassuring. Was a bit concerened with a couple of articles I'd found sugesting the high hormone dose could damage the foetus (in the same way the pill can if you continue taking it). Am happier now - thanks.

Found out last night I'm up the duff. Think I'm 7 weeks. Feel so stupid I didn't notice until now that I hadn't had a period since beginning of Sept. My son is just 7 months so am feeling kinda crazy right now. Going to need another cot, a double buggy.... a bigger house???

Anyone know if you can get those 2nd baby sling buggy things to fit on a Bugaboo?!

Congrats LizzieBG, I think a 15(?) month age is lovely. Plenty of time to worry about the pram etc don't stress!
Don't look for anymore info, I remember going to a training session on morning after pill and the consultant taking session said it was so safe they could leave a self service box outside family planning clinic - she was only joking and very OTT but you get the picture, it certainly won't have done your baby any harm. Does the morning after pill actually work on anyone! I am 4 weeks pregnant having taken it after a condom accident! I have 3 children under 5 so will now need bigger car, house and bank ballence!
