I've just turned 40 and TTC first baby. We've been trying for just over 12 months Sad
This month though things feel different... I ovulated around the 12th (I normally always get ovulation pain and no different this month). A day or so later I started getting mild period pains, just a nagging dull ache. I've not noticed that this is normal for me, but it seems the longer we TTC the more things I notice about my cycle! I am also getting headaches - not constant and I am really really teasy at times. I fell out with my mum over something very trivial which I seldom too and got really irate at someone driving way too slow in front of me the other night Blush I am also experiencing lower back ache... I don't know If I am imagining all these things because I am desperate to be pregnant of if these are early signs..???
Oh well only 6 days to wait..... feels like 6 months!!

Without sounding like the bearer of bad news, it is very very unlikely you will be getting pg symptoms this early on.

When you ovulate, your progesterone increases which creates the perfect envionrment for your little egg to be incubated in your uterus. It causes your temp to rise (which is why a temp rise confirms you have ovulated). High levels of progesterone also cause insomnia, irritability, sore boobs, nausea, aches and pains, and a number of other symptoms.

I don't want to say you aren't pregnant, only that these symptoms can all be explained by progesterone.

Also, you are only 7DPO, and implantation doesn't typically occur until 8-10 DPO. So you won't be getting any symptoms until then at the earliest.

Good luck!!

Hi jellypi3
I know technically its too early to tell, things just feel different. I guess its wishful thinking. Sad

Hi jelly, I found your response really helpful and just wondered if i could ask you a question? You said that progesterone can cause aches and pains (among other things) - is this the same whether you are pregnant or not? I tend to get cramps and lower back pain 4/5 days after ovulation but my period doesn't normally come for another 10 days. I always assume that it is a sign of my impending period and up until now it has been. I just wondered would this still happen if I am pregnant or is a sign that I am definitely not? It happens every month so, so far it has been a sign of AF but it would be good to know if the progesterone would make this happen either way. I've been driving myself mad and haven't been able to find any answers anywhere!

I'm only 6 dpo at the moment so I know it is too early for symptoms (and I'm not really a symptom spotter either) but it would be good to know if this is a sign of my impending period or if I'm still in with a shot! Thanks x

Hi heyarnold if you get pregnant then you will continue to produce progersterone so it is likely you will continue to have the side effects caused by progesterone, as well as the additional effects of early pregnancy.

Of course back pain can also be signs of other things so if it is chronic it's always a good idea to go see a doctor. I get mild lower back pain a few days before AF, but I don't know the exact cause of it (not entirely sure if progesterone can cause back pain).

Sorry if that wasn't much help!!

Thanks Jelly! Its really helpful. Its useful to know that there is still a chance! Now I just need to stop thinking about it until next week when AF is due!
