Menstrual cramps

I have a question about cramps and I am just interested to see if anyone else has had the same as me. I’ve been off the contraceptive implant and ttc for 10 months. Before ttc I didn’t have periods because of the implant so I am not sure what is normal! Since I have been monitoring my cycle I have noticed over the last few months that the amount of time I get cramps (and often back pain) before my period is getting longer – sometimes over a week and a half. To me it seems a bit strange that I would get period cramps 3 or 4 days after ovulation when most other people I have spoken to seem to get them for a few days before AF and that’s it. Most of the time it’s just a dull ache but for a couple of days it can be quite painful.

So I guess what I am asking is – does anyone else get this too for this amount of time? Every month it’s so disappointing when I feel that familiar cramping but I still end up kidding myself that this month it is not menstrual cramps but implantation – and it never is! If anyone else gets the same kind of thing it would be reassuring to know. As its taking a while to conceive I am starting to convince myself that there might be a problem.

Hi I've never had the implant but I've always had very heavy and painful periods. The week before back pain would start and finally went once AF had appeared so they put me on birth control from a young age. Since having my DS 4 years ago the pains sometimes shoot up my back and I feel them more in my tummy and back but now it seems to just appear the day before or the day of AF, I did go back on birth control which actually helped until I stopped lol. If you feel there is something wrong or concerned, just for peice of mind go and see your GP and tell them. Try heat pads and warms baths to help, always works for me and if you can manage to get a back rub to ease the muscles too. Its easier said than done but try not to worry, some ladies do have really painful periods without anything being wrong. Fingers crossed for you hun xxx

Thanks Kelly. I'm not too worried at the moment, it just seemed an awfully long time to be getting cramps for before AF so wasn't sure if it was normal! But I guess everyone is different and I just notice it a lot more now I'm ttc!

Thanks for the tips!

Yep that's the most annoying thing when ttc you notice everything. You also could be having ovulation pains, I used to get those years ago but don't anymore. That is also quite common. Good luck hun and hopefully you get your bfp soon xxx
