TTC - low BBT but no thyroid problem - help!

Hello, I'm very new to this so sorry in advance for the long post. I had the coil taken out at the beginning of January (copper - no hormones so doesn't affect my cycle, fertility returns to normal immediately). DH and I want to have a baby some time in the next year so we have started charting. I have a Persona monitor but also wanted to chart my BBT and check cervical fluid to be doubly sure what was going on. I am a bit concerned as I have noticed that my temps are much lower than most people's seem to be. I had full blood counts taken about two months ago and everything was normal so I don't think it can be a thyroid issue - also I have no other symptoms. I'm slightly overweight (about half a stone) but I think that is just down to me being greedy! I have been on a diet since christmas and have lost 5 lbs, so I don't think I have much trouble losing weight.

I started charting on January 23 right before AF started and my temps were all in the 36 region - highest was day 7, 36.68. When AF finished they got lower - 36s or high 35s. On day 10 of my cycle, which was 3 days ago, they plummeted to 35.5 and my last two temps for yesterday and today are 35.58 and 35.62. I thought it might be a pre-ovulation dip as I've read that some women can have that, but I can't imagine it would last three days?

I took an ovulation test today and yesterday and both were negative however I have read that these are not always very reliable. I thought I was fertile at the moment as yesterday I had a high quantity of watery CM (no eggwhites, I never seem to get eggwhites but I think it is a family thing as my sister never got any either and she has 3 kids).

I guess I will just wait to see if my temp goes up in the next few days to see if I have ovulated or not but I am concerned as everything I am reading seems convinced I must have a thyroid issue if my temps are that low, and yet bloods came up clear.
Thanks for your help!!

Firstly, try not to stress out. That will just be counter productive to you charting.

Are you charting at the same time every day. And is it after a solid 3-4 hours sleep? These things are quite crucial for getting a steady temp. Also, how early are you testing, that can be another factor.

Yes I am a major stress head so I know that doesn't help Smile . I chart as soon as I wake up and before I get out of bed which is at 6.45am each morning, including weekends, pretty much like clockwork.

I did have a disturbed sleep last night but generally I get my solid 3 hours. I was also under the impression that a disturbed sleep would cause temps to go up, not down.

It depends, you read some people that have the complete opposite.

It sounds hard but I would try and chart for a month or two, and try not to over think it. Charting your BBT is incredibly useful for identifying roughly when you ovulate (post ovulation) and how long your LP is, I wouldn't worry about the temp at the moment, maybe see how your full cycle looks.

My post ovulation temps were between 36.6 and 36.9, so not that much higher than your highest temp.

Good luck :)

thanks for your help, I'll give it a month or two and see what happens!

Mine are much lower than that. 36.2 ish in the first half of my cycle and 36.6 ish after ovulation. Didn't even realise it was a problem!

Sorry misread some of your temps but mine have are mostly very low 36 pre ovulation. I've also had blood tests and no thyroid issues.

Thanks v much. I should also perhaps mention that I have been pregnant before but had an abortion. This was 5 years ago so perhaps no thyroid issues then but I do have them now...i'll go to GP.

Thanks all for advice.
