Newly diagnosed PCOS, Advice, Private?

Hi,

My fiancé had a scan a few weeks back and we have found she has PCOS. the doctor said that she only had some of the symptoms but we have been ttc for a while and this may well be the case why.

We have been referred to IVF Wales who I’m assuming will try Clomid or similar but it is taking ages! I am wondering if going private maybe quicker but then have no ideas how much this would be?

I'd appreciate any advice at all.

Thanks.

Didn't want your post going unanswered and I am sure someone wiser will be along soon with advice.

What investigations have you had? Is your partner not ovulating? I only ask this as clomid is used to stimulate ovulation, which you maybe aware of.
Clomid is prescribed before referral to IVF as the outcome could be successful and therefore IVF not required, at least in my experience.
I do not have any experience of private clinics so cannot help with that. You could try researching online.

Thanks for your response.

She had a number of tests and last week was an ultrasoud.

Who is the actual person who gives Clomid? We were told the doctors are not allowed and that is why we were referred?

In my case it was the gynaecologist and that was in 2010. Has a referral been made to gynaecology? In our area gynaecology deal with fertility issues and refer to IVF when all other avenues have been exhausted.

Not as far as im aware but i'll get her to check.

We've been waiting a while for the appointment but just dont know how long it takes. That is why i was wondering if it would be quicker going private.

Appreciate your view and anyone else's.

Hello!
please have a look at the Verity forum and website, it is a charity specialised on PCOS and very helpful.

Is PCO different to PCOS?

Apparantly nothing showed in the bloods but did on the ultrasound

From what I remember it was 3 or 4 months before my IVF appointment came through, that was for initial tests again; bloods, ultrasound and sperm count. A month later we had an appointment with the consultant but that is as far as we went as conceived naturally a couple of months later. Who has referred you for IVF?

darrenwis · 03/02/2015 16:00

Our GP but i think we should have been referred to gynaecology first?

The difference between PCO and PCOS is that in PCO normal follicles tend to turn into cysts on the ovaries and no other symptoms are present; hormonal imbalance. With PCOS is a hormonal imbalance and you can have one or many symptoms. Check out the NHS website for more info and there are more online resources which will explain better.

It may be worth going back to your Dr and finding out the exact procedure for investigating fertility issues. I was advised IVF was always as a last resort after other treatment methods.

hello. :) I have PCOS myself, I found out when I had a scan done at my local hospital. a lot like your fiance, I don't have many signs other than irregular cycles. I was then transferred to the fertility clinic, only to be told they couldn't help us until we had been trying for over a year, and even then we would have to go private as I already have one child from a previous relationship. I'm absolutely devastated by this, I think it's disgusting how little help they'll give to a couple trying for their first baby together, yet they'll give out free boob jobs to women like Josie Cunningham! :( overall my referral to the fertility clinic took 6 weeks, so hopefully you won't be waiting too long. I hope they help you a little better than they've "helped" us!

at the fertility clinic, all they did was ask me and my partner a number of questions, then basically fobbed us off! told us to keep trying naturally until we conceive, unless we become rich and can afford the private option. :(

People might like to look at the following (old) thread about PCOS.

The ladies on it managed to conceive via some serious weight loss which improved fertility.
