could spotting between periods be a sign of a problem?

I've always had spotting in between periods since I came off the pill in 2009. We've been TTC for four months. I know it could take us a while but I'm wondering if I should get the spotting checked out? Or do most GPs decline any investigations until you've been TTC for at least a year?

Will do rainy! Did you say you'd got all your hormones checked?

Solomon have you tried agnus castus yourself? Have considered trying it but some posters here seem keen to warn you off it.

I conceived (after four years) while taking Angus castus and inositol. You can look on pubmed for the medical trials, they have been proved to aid fertility. I'd recommend anyone to read the trials and make a decision on whether it's right for them though.

Thanks Soloman that's helpful.

I've always wondered about progesterone as I've always had short cycles (when not on contraception) and also prone to spots (think I read somewhere once that might be connected).

Could you tell me what inositol is? ('Scuse ignorance! And sorry OP for thread hijack.)

My mid-cycle bleeding turned out to be because of a large endometriosis cyst on my ovary. My doc sent me for a scan straight away after she found out my recent smear had been normal.

they would not check my hormones, i just had an internal scan on my womb and ovaries, me being a plum did not realise what it involved even though the word internal gave it away, so when she said i was having this contraption put in me i freaked a little lol

Oh no rainy - never a nice surprise!

At least your scan results were all good.

Definitely worth checking it out with your GP, if only for peace of mind. I always had spotting for about a week before my period, and I also used to get the odd bit when I was on the pill. Referred for a scan and I have fibroids and polycycstic ovaries. Irony is that in the middle of all the testing I got a BFP. So neither condition is too serious but I'm bloody glad I know why the spotting was happening so I didn't freak the hell out when I started spotting the day after the positive test.
