Been off the Depo Injection for 16 months.
Starting to take a period normally and been in regular contact with GP
He has referred me for blood which are normal and now wants to refer me to hospital for further tests.
HELP!! Don't know what to expect ....has anyone else gone through this ...does it always mean your on the road to IVF?

I am a bit further down the infertility road than you, but thought I'd reply because:
a) infertility is lonely enough without anyone answering your thread
b) I am starting IVF in two months and would love to chat to those who understand
I am not quite sure what you mean by 'starting to take a period normally'. Does that mean that your period is just returning to normal cycle now after being off Depo for 16 months? I think it's great that your Dr is being pro-active in referring you. I assume you are on the NHS which is a very slow system so the sooner you get started, the better.

As for me, I have been TTC for 3 1/2 years and after lots of being mucked around, we finally discovered that hubby has 100% abnormal sperm. Have had a few goes at IVF which have not been successful and am waiting til mid March to be able to try again. Feels like forever away so I am happy to chat to fill in the time!

Hi Glitz

Did you know that 40% of fertility problems are male factor?

It's worth also sending your partner for initial sperm analysis, if you haven't already, which he could usually get free on the NHS within about 6-8 weeks? He only needs to make an appointment with your GP and explain that you have been trying for 16 months with no success and ask to be referred. If you cant wait that long, a local fertility clinic do them for about £85.

Hope this helps!

I am in Australia Glitz so our system is different to yours. First my GP referred me to hospital fertility clinic where they did bloods and ultrasound for me and semen test for DH. DH's sperm was slightly abnormal but that was it. Went back a couple of times but they were hopeless, saying 'we don't know, keep trying'. A year later, a Dr explained that the pathology company that did the semen analysis is a general lab and it should be done at a specialist andrology lab for accurate results. So we repeated semen test at andrology lab and it came back as 100% abnormal. So now I like to advocate to everyone to get sperm tested at andrology lab instead of general lab. But not sure if your system is the same there?

Is it rude to ask your age Glitz? I was 34 when we started trying and am turning 38 this July so I feel like time is fast running out!
