Clomid Mummies-Which cycle was your lucky one?

I have done two rounds of Clomid (ov'd both times) and am waiting to ov on my third. I went to the Dr earlier & she said that if it is going to work, it normally does within 3 months, so is referring us for IVF. She did say in the meantime that we should carry on with the Clomid, but I am wondering if there is any point.

I was really hoping to avoid IVF & am trying to stay positive & believe that the Clomid will work, but just need some reassurance I guess, so I am wondering which was your lucky month?

wow - your doc sounds a bit ivf pushy. can you not ask for more clomid after the 3 months? my dd was concieved on cycle 9 of clomid. now we're ttc again, we got pregnant on cycle 6 of clomid but miscarried. took another 3 cycles but nothing and now we're just starting iui. iui is deffo an option before ivf. iui can be used with clomid or injections. good luck.

Every time; miscarried 3 x, as well as one of the twins with last (successful) pregnancy (1st baby) but those things aren't related.

When I was pregnant I read a book by a lady who was sharing her TTC experience. While IVF isn't something that's affected us (yet), it scared the cr*p out of me.

Give Clomid a go. We were at it from day 7 till day 21. It's true that too much of a good thing can be bad for you (or a passion killer in this case), but to us it was means to an end. It worked. I read that Clomid can affect ovulation windows, hence left nothing to chance.

Are you offered scans to see if you are ovulating?
We didn't see with the 2nd round, however got BFP, although later miscarried (but not before the consultant saw the little grain of rice Smile).
All other times there was a confirmation that an egg is about to form. We would even be told when I'm about to ovulate.
Last scan showed we had 3, then BFP as two fertilised, MC 1, one = a baby.

If you're not getting any feedback - push for it.
Chin up, tail bushy, it'll be alright!

The 4th, and last. :) was on the waiting list for ivf.

Second baby was all natural 18 months after 1st was born

nomio I was thinking of starting a thread asking the same thing. I'm on cycle 2 of clomid and wondering about stats and success rates if you don't get pregnant 1st time.
I'm on the Jan bus too, I think our cycles are similar, my AF is due 24th Jan (think I ovulated today on CD19). Kicking myself for not using EPO this cycle as had no CM to speak of, I'm blaming the clomid for that!
My Gyno advised it was 6 cycles only for me. I'm going back in a month though to discuss progress.
Good luck with your cycle!

Thank you for all the responses.

observer No, I haven't had any scans. I am having a blood test this month to double check I have ovulated, but have just been left to my own devices.

Bovyn We can be Clomid buddies!

I have been given 6 months worth, but the Dr said the IVF referral might take months, so she wants to get us on it now. I think it is down to my age-I have just turned 37. Sad

Nomio230 excuse my language but that's a pretty cr*p thing to have been done to you. What's the point of putting you on meds and then not observe if they work at all?

When I was having Clomid in my 20's I had a scan and a blood test, ff to my 30's and it's only the scan, but they were brilliant with support as well.
For example, I was told to ring on the day my AF starts to book a scan for the middle of my cycle, start Clomid on D2.
That one time Dr wasn't in on those mid cycle days so was told to DTD every other day, test, ring if BFP, got booked for a scan.
When I miscarried that pregnancy - email support, and blood tests straight away to see why MC again. Was put on meds to help support pregnacy, so 4th time a charm = happy ending). Even when I bled on last preg, they emailed to push me to go to GP to get early scan as it may not be a miscarriage. It was but luckily I had twins (fraternal), lost one (very, very early days).

What I'm trying to say is that we received a comprehensive care, as you're being treated, not just pushed to the wolves "hey, let's see if she makes it". That's just stupid. Clomid isn't a smarties tube, neither is IVF , it's your body and your life they're potentially messing with.

Observer78 · 11/01/2015 20:18

Nomio230 your age isn't an excuse for poor care.
My colleague was 40 and conceived with little help so that's buttocks they're talking. You should be taken even more care because of your age!!
Angry

Thanks guys.

My surgery are totally useless, so I am just grateful I finally got to see someone earlier to be honest. It is almost impossible to get an appointment there & when you do, they are useless.

I was told last January that the next step was Clomid & was being referred to the fertility clinic, went back after two months to chase up & was told "Oh sorry, it looks like the Dr forgot to send off the referral forms"

The Dr I saw then then assured mne that she would take care of it. Three months later I got a referral to a midwife. When I queried it, I was told that someone had ticked the box saying I was pregnant rather than wanted fertility help.

They once again promised to refer me. I went back again & was told to just keep waiting.

Went back yet again & was told the reason I hadn't had an appointment was because the fertility clinic had asked for a copy of dh's sperm test results & someone at my surgery must have forgotten to send them.

By then it was November & I was going crazy with waiting, so ended up paying to go private just so I could get a clomid prescription. I then asked to be referred back to the NHS for follow up & finally got seen earlier.

I was told that they don't do any monitoring while you are on Clomid, as the risk of overstimulation is really low, so there is no need. Personally, I think it comes down to funding.

I am moving house soon & will be in a different PCT. As soon as I am no longer under the care of this practice, I will be making a formal complaint, because the way I have been treated is completely unnacceptable.

Anyway, that is my rant over for the night! Off to try & make a baby now!

Blimey, I can't imagine not being monitored whilst on Clomid - at least for the first couple of cycles. I had four rounds last year and realised it was futile (early forties) so we paid for IVF and got our much longed-for baby. Please don't fear IVF.

Observer78 · 11/01/2015 22:56

Nomio that's an absolute joke.
Btw Clomid isn't the only drug, but that aside- I'm assuming your infertility cause has been investigated?

Nomio230 · 13/01/2015 16:42

Thanks for the support ladies.

observer Yes, we have both been checked. Dh has good sperm & I have had every test known to mankind & they have all come back as normal, so we have unexplained infertility, which is really annoying.

I guess we will just keep trying & hope for the best.

I was so lucky and conceived on first cycle. now 11 weeks pregnant. I wasn't monitored at all except for a day 21 blood test to see if I had ovulated. no scans or nothing! it was a little scary to be honest as I could have ended up with 10 babies for the price of 1 and no one would have known till first scan :)
