Hi anyone on the list on Metformin, if so, how long have you been on it, how much mg do you take daily and what side effects have you had. My GP has decided to start me on met instead on giving me Clomid, because I haven't had AF yet and am on day 67.

Hi malinki
I hope you don't think I'm too personal asking you this, but I think you are very similar to me, ie on Metformin, with PCOS ttc.
We've mentioned before the horrible metformin tummy troubles, which no doubt you have experienced, now I have been on 1500mg a day, (500mgs thrice daily) for 7 weeks, and although I have passed the initial horendos stage, I still have very strange bowel movements going from the sublime to the ridiculos, sometimes in the same day, I go from uncontrolable Diaoreha (spelling?) to constipation. Do you suffer the same? I went from Jan 03 til Mar 04 (14 months)only having 4 periods brought on by me taking Progestrone tables, I have had af on my Own Mar 04 and May 04, waiting to see if I can do on my own this month or if every other month will be my new cycle. Just interested to know if you suffer the same problems, and if you or anyone else has any suggestions (BTW I also take folic acid everyday) (Oh and tried reflexology, had 3 sessions, lady said she could feel I was blocked 1st sess, 2nd sess she thought I was ov and 3rd sess she said no point in going back as I was perfectly fine, and she thinks I will fall pg really quickly, not sure how much to read into that, don't want to get my hopes up.

Hi Stacey, what your experiencing is brand problems of Metformin. I had the same it carried on for months, even lost weight. Verity the PCOS supporters group (yes they have one PCOS is quite common now), they recommend that you get your Met from Boots and ask for their own brand, not other makes, apparently and I have to agree, the side effects in this brand are less. You may have to order it from boots, I was lucky, big store. With regards to the reflexology, I know a few women who have fallen pregnant after sessions. I had my last period at 43 days and we now BD every 2 days, so fingers crossed something might happen soon. Take care

How interesting I thought metformin was prescription only! can I just buy over the counter at boots? or do you mean take my prescription to boots?
I've got tonnes of Met left, enought to see me through to my lap & Dye in Oct. So I doubt my doctor will give me another prescription.
Fingers crossed as always for you

Hi, no, take your prescription to boots and ask for their own brand.

stacyk,

"Oh and tried reflexology, had 3 sessions, lady said she could feel I was blocked 1st sess, 2nd sess she thought I was ov and 3rd sess she said no point in going back as I was perfectly fine, and she thinks I will fall pg really quickly"

i do hope you do although i find this a strange thing for the reflexologist to say. not because we are charlatans but no one is perfectly fine! i am surprised she didnt suggest at least bi monthly or monthly, to keep things balanced.

i am glad you tried it (as i did suggest it over on that other thread). IF you enjoyed the sessions, you can keep it up, you know. there is always emotional benefit... something that we are not always aware of possibly. if you didnt gel with that therapist, feel free to try another.

best wishes
rosie

Hi Rosies
I do actually get on really well with her, I've gone to her for beauty treatments for years, first at salon, now I go to her home, she is one of the only people I have told I'm ttc, she is very spiritual, and into healing reaki (spelling?) and such like, but after the 3rd session she said she didn't want to take my money for no reason, she thought I was fine, she suggested I try to stop thinking of ttc, and book holiday etc, she actually told me to stop coming on this web site, as it playing on my mind all the time. But easier said than done, I can't NOT think about it/dream about it etc etc, and I personally find this web site a huge help, as I have not told anyone (apart from refelxologist) that I am ttc I feel I need this site. I said well I actually enjoy it,and want to keep coming an hour a week and she suggested a facial or something to relax (which is much cheaper than reflex) so I can't help but feel she looking out for my best interests. she did say that when I get next af, I should give her a call and maybe go and see her a week or so after af. I am willing to try anything, I'm booked for lap & dye in Oct, but would love to be able to cancel it.

of course you are going to be pre occupied with ttc and of course you know you should stop thinking about it, but as you say, easier said than done.

i dont really know what to suggest to you regarding treatments. certainly anything that helps you relax, de stress and unwind is a good thing... does she offer reiki cheaper than reflex? or massage even... 30 minute back massage for example.

you could combine therapies to help the purse strings. alternate them perhaps.

best wishes

I was diagnosed pcos at 18 years old [now 34] at the time i was told i would never have children.. i was distraught of course.. as you can imagine .. i was perscribed the pill dianette to regulate the bleed and alo to help with the severe hirsutism i suffered..

i was a little lazy with the pil and 2.5 years ago had my little boy.. as you can imagine i didn't know i was pregnant for 5 months... i thought i was getting fat...well fatter.. and as i never had real period in years this wa not sign either..

well i am metformin now.. i went to doctor prevalic in harley street... well after so many years in nhs having to wait 6 months for the next set of treatments etc.. i though it was worth it..she was.. examined my diet ..told me to lose weight as this can hinder fertility.. low carb ..+ 40 mins of exercise a day..hmm..

metformin worked for a good 6 months regulare period ..no weight loss.. chocs didnt help of course.. for the hairy face.. iwas shaving everyday... i had laser treatment... at the royal free..in london..it is very good 6 sessions have left me with a lot less hair.. and a new lease of life..

nver give up..push for what you need..dr prevalic is a great dr whom has studied this for 25 years... and at last a woman...in this feild
