Hi ratclare. I had my coil removed earlier this month and AF has just arrived. I was asking the same question as you a month or so ago and I got a few responses.....some people have conceived within a month or two. I know that someone (but can't remember who!) was advised to wait a month before trying so that lining of uterus got fully equipped, etc, but my GP said that anything could happen from the point of removal. I get the impression that basically the mirena should/does not effect fertility and your body should not need any time to get back into its cycle. Have you had yours removed yet?

i spoke to my dr today and she says that you should not have unprotected sex 7 days prior to removal and then leave it 2 months before trying to concieve so you are nicely back in a cycle . She also said that basically once removed thats stops working . Thanks feedmenow for your help

Hi ratclare-I conceived a week or two after having it removed in May (I'm 39 BTW) and it was ectopic
A couple of people have hinted that it's because I conceived so fast but who knows??

hi; had it removed end of april, still trying! had tiny spot of bleeding a week after, and then at that time each month since. I have gone straight back to a reg cycle ie 29/30 days. tho periods hugely lighter - used to be (pre mirena - with various pills) about 5-7 days, fairly heavy - now v light and 2/3 days with a little bit hanging around thereafter. am 31

good luck :-)

Hi Femaleots. Really interested to hear what you had to say about yours. I only had mine removed about 4 weeks ago and have just had AF. I was epecting it to be really heavy and was really surprised how feeble it has been. I thought that maybe it was just a one-off as first AF since coil removal but am interested to hear that yours are still much lighter.
While I'm at it, has anyone else who used to have a mirena had trouble with emotions and mood swings? I really feel like I'm all over the place since it was removed, and have also been really hot and bothered (cheeks really burning up, sweating loads at night, etc. Has anyone else had any unexpected post-mirena symptoms?????

FemaleoftheSpecies · 04/10/2006 07:59

yes v emotional here - has been years without af in its natural state so thought i'd just forgotten what it was like, but definitely going hot - and although light its almost like i'm getting a delayed cycle in some respects, things seem to be a bit out of sync to af ie skin / bloating happen at different times to when they used to..

am getting bit despondent about not hitting nail on head and getting a bfp.. despite clear ovulation and ewcm.. almost wish had mirena back as each month was the same and i didn't really have any downside to it.. apart from month of pain when it went in! sigh a girls life hey

was evryone else happy with mirena or any downsides?

hi, sorry to hijack but I asked my GP about mirena and he says you get it fitted while on your period - is that right?

Bibiboo · 04/10/2006 08:35

Feedmenow, I had my mirena removed on Thursday and started bleeding Sunday, since then it's been really, really heavy, but it starting to lessen off now. I felt almost instantly better though, sex drive returned. Just waiting for the teenage-style acne to clear up now!

Schneeblysteinsmonster, yes you get it fitted while on your period as the cervix is slightly opened I think to make insertion easier. I had to book a test a the gps a week before for swabs to rule out infection.

feedmenow · 05/10/2006 19:01

Thats wierd Bibiboo, completely different. Unless that's pretty much where you were in your cycle. Did you have any idea of your cycle while you still had your coil? For a long time I didn't get anything, but in the past year or so I would sometimes get a bit of a blood stained discharge (sorry if TMI!) so I still managed to keep tabs on my cycle. My first af since having it removed came on what I think was cd26, so I think I was just about right.
