Hi,
Just a little back ground, Im 46 and TTC with the help of my lovely partner obviously :-) I have 22 year old daughter from a previous relationship (horrific morning sickness for 5 months but normal pregnancy) and he has 18 and 21yr old daughters...so we know no problems in that department....well not way back then anyway.
for the last 10 years I had a Mirena coil and until 3 years ago I had periods every 28 days, I then got a new coil and they slowly stopped over a few months Dr said not to worry as its a side effect of Mirena. I started getting hot flushes sort of thing at the start of this year and thought OH no its Menopause started so popped to the DR for a blood test and she said nope hormones etc still very active but I had slightly high blood pressure and that was the problem.
Fast forward to AUGUST
after discussion long and hard we decided to try for a baby and if it happened it happened and if it didn't it didn't sort of thing due to my age etc. on the 16th September I had my coil removed and we continued with our normal health 3x a week activities lol.......after about 10 days I started to get incredible nausea in the mornings and then over a few days this became all the time....so I did a test and it was negative waited a few more days and negative and then again on Saturday negative......I have no signs at all of a period either. Ive been getting random crampings and twinges a bit like AF starting but nothing other than tiredness and nausea and actual sickness a few mornings too.
My problem is I have no idea when I can test reliably to see if Im pregnant, as I have no idea when I ovulated or even if I ovulated. I sounded out the idea of TTC at 46 with the Nurse at my DRs and she was shocked and gave the idea it was very irresponsible so I'm very loath to go back.
I have booked an appointment with the DRs for the 20th to ask about this awful Nausea and if she suggests a test the I will try again but Im finding it all stressful and very confusing.

Has anyone else had issues like this at all or have any suggestions at all on when I can test for a reliable result as test are getting expensive :-(

I look forward to hearing back I do hope someone has some words of advice

xxx

Hi there - I'm also 46 and have been trying for over a year to have a second child though in that time I've been under a lot of stress and found my periods starting to become irregular.

My DD is 3 and I conceived her easily but no luck since and I found medical profession reluctant to help. That said, I haven't completely given up hope - I just don't take supplements or use ovulation predictor kits any more or post on the 40s thread here - though I'd suggest you talk to them. They're lovely and highly knowledgeable.

It is only, what, about three weeks since you had your coil removed? It isn't impossible you're pregnant so maybe ask the doctor what he/she thinks when you see them?

I've had several spells without a period where I've felt nausea, cramps and even pains i thought were like implantation but no positive HPTs so I've started to see these symptoms as not being so important.

Don't let doctors etc put you off if it is really something you want. Even with the attitude of 'if it happens, great' - this is a really tough journey. Lots of people do go on to have good pregnancies and lovely healthy children though. Best of luck!
