Hello everyone!

I'm 28, just got married and my next packet of the pill is going to be my last as we want to start trying for our first child together.

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 18 months ago and I've managed to convinced myself by reading horror stories on the internet about how hard it will be to conceive and that my chances of miscarriage are higher etc. Has anyone had any experience of getting pregnant being hypothyroid?

I have an appointment with my GP next Thursday as I apparently have to tell her if I'm going to try and conceive.

Hi there, it's a worrying time isn't it? Such a shame as this should be so full of joy!

I have an under active thyroid, am 28 in October and also trying for my first, so pretty similar! From what I have read your thyroid issue, as long as it is controlled, should not affect your ability to conceive and carry a healthy baby- couple of pointers though:

DO NOT take a pre natal vitamin at the se time as your meds-these often contain iron and calcium which interferes with your absorption of thyroxine. I was doing this for 6 months, felt terrible, symptoms recurring and no BFP! Realised about 6 weeks ago when went to the gp to discuss-doctor I saw who advised taking pre natal bits had not mentioned this Hmm now taking folic acid only!

When you do get a BFP go to the docs and have your tag measured again and pregnancy can mess up your thyroid levels and your dose may need adjusting to ensure proper development of baby

Gods luck!

Good to hear a positive view!

Unfortunately I probably had the condition for years before it was diagnosed because I just kept getting tested for anaemia which I don't have. I've been told that my heart might already be damaged as I now have an irregular heartbeat and have had to have a few ecgs and I just worried I could have damaged other body parts. Guess I'm just gonna have to learn to stay positive!
