Lucie I found out I wasnt ovulating by day 21 blood tests.

Normally the blood tests will be the first thing they'll get you to do even before going to gynae.

My gp did mine for 3 months to compare and then my gynae doc had me do them again recently.

lucieloos · 11/09/2014 16:36

Would they be able to tell by pelvic ultrasound if you are ovulating? I have one booked in a couple of weeks (been having a few tests at private clinic rather than gp) Maybe I will wait for that and see what they say and then I can go to the gp for the other tests if necessary?

MrsExtraOrdinary · 11/09/2014 17:21

Do you mean an internal ultrasound? That's usually to check for abnormalities I believe. Sometimes they can see if your tubes have a blockage or kink or if there are cysts on your ovaries or signs of endomitriosis. I've had rather a few. Unless you are at the point of ovulating they wouldn't be able to tell if you were I dont think.

lucieloos · 11/09/2014 20:15

I'm not sure whether it's internal or not MrsE they haven't given me a lot of info to be honest!! It's an initial investigation and they said they would be checking the ovaries and uterine cavity. What does the 21 day test check for is it LH?

MrsGingerbread · 11/09/2014 20:15

Hello ladies!

Change of plan, we can try this cycle!

So new stats for me... I will have a read back through the thread later so I can settle in properly. :)

MrsGingerbread, 32, ttc#1, cycle 7 (mcs 3 and 4), bfp due 4th October

gennibugs · 11/09/2014 20:31

Hello ladies.

I had a day 21 test last year with the GP which showed I wasn't ov. The day 21 measures progesterone. At the time they told me it was just an annovulatory cycle and told me to come back after a year. I had a day 21 at the doctors last month and again it was inconclusive which is what prompted me to see a specialist. This time at the fertility specialist I've had a load of blood tests on day 4 and two internal ultrasounds - one on day 4 and one on day 18. In the day 4 one they checked that my uterus etc all seemed to be in working order and measured how many follicles I had on each ovary, their size etc. When I had the second scan on day 18 it showed no signs that I had ov (they can tell from the lining apparently) and the fact that none of the follicles had grown or shown that a) an egg had ruptured and travelled or b) that they were looking like they were about to any time soon. Which by day 18 of a 30 day cycle you would expect. So I'm going back next week for another day 21 test. I'll have more ultrasounds and blood tests in October and if it shows nothing then we know Im not ov.

I'm sure everywhere does different tests etc, but thought it might be useful to share mine (in rather basic non medical terms I know - sorry!)

MrsExtraOrdinary · 11/09/2014 20:33

Whoopee MrsG!!!! Lovely to have you fully on board!

TheProofIsInThePudding · 11/09/2014 20:37

It sounds like some of you have been through (and are going through) the ringer in TTC and you have my sympathies, even if I don't understand what it's like.

MrsExtraOrdinary · 11/09/2014 20:37

....in other news dh would like me to stop taking soy as he thinks I've turned into a woman possessed! Don't remember it making me quite so Angry last month, but then knobhead solicitor hadn't lost my contracts last month! WineWine I've had rather a lot of wine, medicinal obviously!

Broker driving down now from canary wharf to meet dh on the m25! I've never known anything quite so ridiculous. I'm not sure why drama seems to follow me but there's always something going on. When I'm old with at least 20 grandchildren I can sit back and write the book that is my crazy life! Grin

spinningirl10 · 11/09/2014 20:53

MrsG, good to see you're joining us Grin

Genni, thanks for sharing, it's good to hear how the process works when you start going for tests.

MrsE, maybe it's not just the soy, you are having a lot of stress with the house! If it effects my moods too much I will stop taking it.

Just caught up with the last 'in the club'......shame it's over, I really enjoyed it, hope there's a second series.

MrsExtraOrdinary · 11/09/2014 21:05

Spinning I didn't notice it this bad lady month, so fx it's not just soy, but it's been a very stressful week. Just 2 more nights so will see what happens this month. Spinning have you noticed your boobs getting bigger? I'm sure that's the upside of soy! Wink

gennibugs · 11/09/2014 21:32

I've just finished watching in the club too - they've left it open for a second series I think! I really enjoyed it (despite blubbing each time a baby was born at how flipping cute they were!) I'm going to watch some of the bake off now - which no doubt will leave me wanting cake!

Hmmm I've been looking into soy, but if they affect moods then I might avoid. I can be a moody mare at the best of times to be honest!! Smile but I'll be interested to see how you all get on with it. Fx it works. Perhaps something to consider in the future maybe.

CurlyJay19 · 11/09/2014 22:15

Hey I'm new to all this but been reading up on all the lingo the last couple of months.

Stats: age 31, ttc #1 cycle 3, BFP due either 2nd or 4th October.

Came off the pill in April so could see what my periods were like. Used to come on like clockwork with no pain before BC now I get spotting prior to it starting with cramps before and during. Just finished period and had spotting for 6 data before proper AF started. It's all very frustrating when you're hoping for a BFP and think the spotting might be implantation bleeding but it ends up being AF after all.

Have had previous BFP with a former boyfriend which ended in mmc 3 years ago but that was an accidental pregnancy. With new DP and trying properly now but it's not happening yet.

Just got come IC opk so need some tips. Do ppl actually leave urine to get to room temperature before testing?? I work 12 hour shifts so I can't really test during the day while I'm at work so I don't know what to do about that as it says between 10 and 8 is best.
Any advice?

Cariad2014 · 11/09/2014 23:43

Mind if I come join you ladies? Had a temp drop this morning and gave gad AF cramps all afternoon so I'm sure she'll be here come Monday at the latest.

MrsG - Awesome news that you can join us this cycle - woop woop!

Chandlers - I laughed out loud at how you'd replaced the entirety of DH's underwear drawer - I can just imagine my DH's reaction if I tried that tactic on him.

MrsE - good luck getting the house move sorted - it will SO be worth it in the end.

Genni - sorry to hear about your test results. Fx you get your BFP very soon Flowers

Cariad2014 · 11/09/2014 23:57

Had a bit of a wobble today when one of my few remaining friends who isn't heavily pregnant announced that she's expecting a baby in March less than a week after our unsticky cp baby would have been due. I'm utterly delighted for her, as I suspect their ttc journey hasn't been entirely smooth or stress free either, not that this stopped me having a big cry this evening.

I'm also now faced with the prospect of having to attend a baby shower this weekend (that I agreed to organise during the one week of my life when I was consciously upduffed) as the only non-pregnant person there. Feel like a right gooseberry. DH says I shouldn't go if it's likely to upset me but I'd feel quite guilty about abandoning them (there are 5 others so it's not like they'd be alone) so I don't really know what to do.

Why oh why is it always the case that you feel that you're coping just fine and then something comes out of the blue and floors you? Last month it was SIL texting to ask if I minded if she gave all her old baby stuff (that had long been promised to DH) to her pregnant cousin instead.

Sorry about the me me me post - I shall be on better form tomorrow I promise.

frogbubbles · 12/09/2014 05:00

Hey ladies, still lurking on the back of this bus. I think I shall be joining you shortly. Fx this is a lucky month for everyone Smile

MrsGingerbread · 12/09/2014 06:19

Thank you all for the warm welcome :) I have had a proper catch up now! I'm so pleased we can try this cycle, I was really sad when I was initially advised to hold off.

I am going to up my b6 from 50mg to 100mg this cycle in the hope of extending my lp a little. We are sticking with soft cups and preseed. I am also on a trial for Clear Blue - so I have some digi opks to pee on from next week. :)

I have recently started imagining how my mum would have reacted years ago If I used the absence of these things as contraception... "Don't worry Mum, I won't get pregnant - I'm not using b6/preseed/soft cups this month". She would have gone bonkers!

MrsE I can't believe the stress you are having. Temper won't be soy, anyone would be furious with the contract situation. I hope all is well.

Genni so sorry your results weren't what you hoped, thank you for explaining the process, that is very helpful.

Cariad Sorry you are having such a tough time. I hope you make the right decision for you on the baby shower. x

Chandlers bless your friend's advice. A face to face chat is probably best there!

Pikz · 12/09/2014 06:21

Officially a passenger now Hmm

Pikz ttc#2 cycle 10 bfp due mid October

37 day cycle... Lovely!

spinningirl10 · 12/09/2014 06:49

Morning Grin

Welcome Curly and Dozy, good luck to you both. Nice to see another older lady hereGrin
We're all far too impatient to let fmu get to room temperature!!

Cariad, if the baby shower is going to be too hard I would give it a miss. Do any of the others know you're trying?

MrsE, I have implants so mine are always largeGrin

Cd6 here, must stock up with soft cups and opks. No effects from the soy, took 150mg last night.

spinningirl10 · 12/09/2014 06:51

Pikz, sorry af arrived, are you still considering taking soy?

Cariad2014 · 12/09/2014 07:19

Spinning and MrsG thanks for your kind words. DH has been really against telling anyone that we're ttc, but I suspect all our friends may have their suspicions - particularly as I've cut down on how much I drink. The difficulty I have with not going is that they really are my closest group of friends, and whilst I know relationships change after you've had children, I don't want to abandon our friendships and never see them just because I'm going through a tough time. Perhaps the best strategy (a little bit akin to an ex's wedding) is to buy myself a new dress and spend lots of time getting ready so that the fact that I look better than I usually do hopefully cheers me up.

MrsG - Loving your list of "contraception" Made me laugh out loud!

Welcome Pikz - FX that this is your cycle.

Good luck to all those trying out soy. I stocked up on EPO and vitamin B6 yesterday, although I can't help but think that my biggest form of contraception at the moment is stress. Planning to start yoga this cycle - which I really hope helps keep me calm.

Cariad2014 · 12/09/2014 07:31

Have just re-read the final paragraph of my post and realise that it may have sounded a little insensitive. Really sorry if I upset anyone.

MrsGingerbread · 12/09/2014 07:39

Cariad I don't think that was insensitive! Stress isn't good for any of us. :) Loving your dress to impress plan. Go for it ;)

Sorry, I forgot to say hello to our new passengers. Welcome!! :)
