I'm 41 and have been TTC for the past 9 months. I have 2DCs (16 months and 3 years) so have been fertile in the past and conceived at 37 and 39 (I know how fortunate I am to have them). But, I always wanted 3 children so am finding myself on the TTC rollercoaster and this time not having as much luck.

I did fall pregnant after 5 months but had a miscarrige at 6 weeks. Have had no luck the past 3 months of trying since the miscarriage.

I'm very conscious of my age and so have booked an appointment at a fertility clinic (Create Wimbledon).

Am I being too impatient? I am having a scan to check a few things. Will they run other tests or just push me down the IVF route? I had a really odd period this month so am thinking perhaps I have a hormonal imbalance. I'd prefer to go down the private route rather than ask my GP for an NHS referral given time is not on my side. But, is an IVF clinic the right starting point?

I'm a bit confused so any guidance is much appreciated!

While I'm not able to help you as I don't really know much about assisted fertility (yet, lets hope it doesn't come to that). I can look at this logically and say whats the harm? I think it's important to get some tests done if nothing else but to ease your mind.

Have you been charting your cycles for the past 9 months? I can be really helpful to have some information for the doctors. It could be a number of things some of which are ease to correct with the assistance of drugs. If it were me I would talk to my doctor and get them to do any tests they can, then ask for a referral to a specialist privately.

Thanks Siarie. No harm going to my GP and doing some testing in tandem. I shall make an appointment as well as pursuing the private fertility clinic.
