Hi,

I have rheumatoid arthritis, under active thyroid and another auto immune disease not on your list. We are currently ttc#3, my youngest is 11, had to wait for illnesses to be controlled before I could come off meds to ttc. With ds2 I fell pg first cycle and the RA went into remission during pregnancy, I'm hoping for the same again. We are on cycle 4 now, have nothing interesting to report. I've had to start taking steroids because RA flared up. Sorry, not much help for you.

I've got limited systemic sclerosis it's a form of scleroderma. I didn't have that when ttc#2 so not sure how it will effect things but the consultants seem positive about things.

Have you been diagnosed since the birth of your last child? I was diagnosed with RA after the birth of ds1, when pregnant with ds2 I went in to remission, it was great. Hoping for the same again.

Sounds like you have a lot more going on than me, have you had to stop taking meds to ttc?

Hi,
i got type 1 diabetes and hypothyroidism. i didn't tell my doctor that i was trying and when i got pregnant with DS. They then made sure to make me feel guilty for it, despite having my sugar controlled. So i cant tell you what levels they want you to have before you get pregnant. it took me six months to conceive DS.

on the appointment i made with my gp to tell them about the pregnancy, my gp wanted to increase thyroxine dose straight away without even testing. i told her no! no messing with my medicine without a blood tests saying so. so she gave me a blood test and told me to do so straight away, and behold a week later was called to pick up a prescription for thyroxine as blood test showed i needed an increase.

i was also refereed to an endocrinologist at the hospital to help me control my sugar and check my thyroxine levels. i had an appointment in the hospital every Friday in the first trimester (hormones can play havoc with diabetes a lot, it also helps a lot to be given realistic targets to achieve for your type of diabetes and not generalise all diabetes. which is what the consultant i saw for the first time in week 13 said). don't worry all i did at these appointment is discuss diabetes control not baby. except one particular nasty doctor, who just sat there talking about all the risks and possibilities of everything that could have gone wrong.

after my week 13 appointment my was reduced and i was only seen every other Friday as my sugar level fit the level he set for me. i was also given three extra scans, like all diabetics do.

every four weeks i needed to have a blood test done. to check both thyroxine level and my glucose control.

Sorry for the long post, but do tell your doctor that your are trying if you haven't done so already. you will feel less stress during the pregnancy.

finalyfine I have gone by the book with regards diabetes (hearing all the horror stories I was scared to death at first), I have a great team who knows my mobility limitations and got my b1c down last test. I have got loads of info and help from a fb groups which has been brilliant and given me loads of info.

we have had the go ahead from consultant, just waiting for the bfp :) . this is my 1st time ttc with diabetes and never had to go through the hoops with the other 4 kids.

I know what you mean about the drs some are great, then you get the odd one who makes you feel like crap.

how did you get on in the end? good I hope :) x

the most important thing was happy and healthy baby and mom so i'm very pleased to say yes it went very well. after my last scan (in week 36) dr booked me for an induction for the next week. Dr said we don't let type one reach 38 weeks as the risks of still birth is to high after that. she said some hospital lets ladies of with another week or so, but not this one.

So you may want to investigate different hospitals and their polices before hand.

the induction failed (it was my first child) and had an emergency c-section. to me it was very wonderful and quick. i was told to feed DS and i did. but i didn't do a good job of it, i think. as when the midwife returned to check his glucose level it was low. so took him of me and returned him to me after she bottle feed him and raised his sugar level. which in some ways was also a very big relief. a professional healthcare person with lots of experience of hypo babies was taking care of him. instead of me who was so tried beyond belief (it was five days since the start of my induction). however, he didn't go hypo again.
