I have a friend ttc for 2 years but has pcos and a very stressful job so is at an all time low. I was really hoping for some tips on anything she can do physically to up the chance of conceiving (she's been told to lose weight which isn't really easy or mood enhancing) and any suggestions for how to cheer someone up when they feel they are fighting losing battle and might not be able to give gorgeous hubby a baby??

I second a low gi diet. did it for 5 months and my skin cleared up and I got pregnant. at an early scan they checked my ovaries and they had cleaned up.

Wow, thank you so much for those tips, I'll ask her! Her gp won't do anything till she loses weight. She's lost half a stone but it's not enough and we all comfort eat so it's a viscious cycle at the moment. xx

I have PCOS too so understand how difficult it must be for your friend. Like the others have said, the most important thing is to eat a low GI diet and cut back on white carbs and sugar. One website which is really useful is PCOS Diva, which has lots of good advice on nutrition and supplements. Taking cinnamon (either tablets or a good quality powder) is supposed to help with insulin resistence and weight loss. Hope that helps.

Fantastic, thank you! I'm going to try and encourage herto go low gi and maybe supplements for 6 months. I read about myo does anyone know if that works? Chloechloe do you mind me asking if it's worked for you?

There are several studies that have shown myo inositol to work if that's what you're referring to? I would generally caution against messing with lots of supplements without proper advice, but inositol seems to be one of the few that doesn't seem to have any negative effects for PCOS.

Although I have PCOS I don't have a problem with my weight, so that wasn't an issue with me.

I got pregnant twice, practically within days of going on low GI diets with diagnosed PCOS.

That gives me hope, thank you, it's just convincing my friend that it's worth the effort!!

I second the losing weight thing but also appreciate its not easy. I had laparoscopic ovarian drilling to get my last two so could maybe look into that with GP also.
