I took it until after I knew I had conceived. It is supposed to increase blood flow to the uterus and some studies have pointed to a decreased rate of m/c. I believe if you are high-risk for m/c your dr. might have you continue taking it throughout much if not all, of pregnancy, although that may be on a case by case basis.

Please do not take low dose aspirin with regards to ttc unless instructed to do so by a qualified medical person.

curious attila why you've said that - is it a bad thing to do? I thought to take a low dose until you knew you conceived (as jabberwocky did) was ok?

new research is saying asprin is not of that much benefit, that's what the doctor at the reccurent m/c clinic told me this morning. you normally take it if you have a blood clotting disorder.
I told her i have heard otherwise especially from women on mumsnet. maybee i should try to find this latest research....

I don't know if I have missed anything in the last few months, but I mentioned this to a friend of mine who is going through fertility tx. She asked her doctor who said it was fine if she wanted to add that to her regimen.

I believe that aspirin taken ordinarily in pregnancy restricts the blood supply through the placenta and is therefore A Bad Thing.

However. If you have a blood clotting disorder (like antiphospholipid antibody syndrome for instance, as I do) then you take it from at least ovulation for the rest of the pregnancy. I took it in conjunction with heparin by injection. The latter was started at six weeks pregnant.

If you have apla syndrome, one of the potential effects is to impede implantation - and somehow aspirin alleviates this.

There is current research from NZ, suggesting that women with low levels of certain antiphospholipid antibodies don't need to take the heparin as well - that aspirin is sufficient. So saying that it's not of much benefit is, I suspect, dependent on the specific needs of your test group.

Sorry - correction - didn't mean "low levels of certain antiphospholipid antibodies" - I meant 'only slightly raised levels'.

Apla syndrome is supposed to be the biggest single cause of recurrent miscarriage, btw.

Thanks for these responses ladies - i appreciate it. I think I'll wait until I get my appointment and have the tests then talk through the options.

Thanks alot.
