Stealing her thunder?

Hi everyone,
My DH and I already have 2 DSs and thought we were going to stick with that, but we've now decided that we want to try for one more, and we're v excited... BUT my sister has just announced she and her DH are ttc, and this will be their first. From my pov, being pregnant at the same time as my sister will be wonderful, but I'm worried she won't be so thrilled. I want it to be as special for her as it was for me first time, and I'm concerned she'll feel she's sharing the limelight- not that I'll be wanting any at all. And if she doesn't get pregnant and I do, that would be horrible. I feel like asking her if she'll mind, but that's hard to do without making us both sound petty. Of course, she might be as delighted as I am. How would you feel in her position?

Hey Raines, my partner and I have just decided to try, he already has 2 kids and a stepdaughter who is pregnant with her second, my brother got married a year ago and I know they are trying too but if it's what you want, like us, go for it and your family should be happy for you. We aren't sure how his kids will react especially his stepdaughter however I am hoping that they will all be pleased for us if it happens and I, like you, think it would be great if 2/3 of us were expecting at the same time!!!!! I think that could be really nice x x x

Its a funny one isn't it. Even if you ask her she is unlikely to say "If you get pregnant while I am ttc then I'm going to be seriously annoyed with you" - even if that's what she is thinking.

I think though it is important to separate more distance relations to that of sisters. Idk about for you but my sister and I have a special relationship. My sister knows we have been ttc for ages and about the tests I'm having at the moment but nobody else in my family know about this. If she and her DP started ttc while we are and got pregnant I would be more disappointed that she hadn't told me they were trying than they succeeded quicker that we have.

I suppose this really depends on what your sister is like though. I know some who would disown you for even thinking of such a thing...

I guess it's a personal choice but I would not have even considered this, why shouldn't you TTC just because your sister is doing the same?

Anyone who gets upset about someone TTC at the same time as them need a reality check as far as I'm concerned, but I do take a more direct view in life.

I think she will be upset if you fall pregnant and she won't, which is very understandable. That doesn't mean she doesn't wish it for you, but she would probably be sad for herself at the same time.
Pregnancy isn't really something you can plan. It happens, or it does not.
Being pregnant together can be joyful, but it can also be horrible (for instance if one of you gets all the horrible symptoms and the other none). There is no predicting it.
Ask yourself this: how would you feel if you delayed trying now, and finding out later that you have missed your opportunity for another baby?
