I have heard it is all about what you eat and herbs and the effects of them and that it is quite an insight. Anyone know it?

How to take charge of your fertility by Toni Weshcler

Found it on Amazon, full title is The Infertility Cure: The Ancient Chinese Wellness Program for Getting Pregnant and Having Healthy Babies.

It says

"Lewis, a licensed acupuncturist and herbalist, believes infertile couples should turn to Chinese medicine as an alternative to what she considers painful, invasive and time-consuming Western treatments. She first explains, "Traditional Chinese medicine holds that a woman's body must be gently nourished and encouraged to bear fruit.... I have found that most hormonal imbalances (which contribute to 40 percent of documented cases of infertility, yet are considered untreatable by conventional Western medicine) respond to Eastern methods of treatment." In Lewis's experience, women who have undergone three to six months of the dietary changes, herbs and acupuncture treatments become pregnant with no further effort. Lewis intersperses her somewhat technical examination of the program with anecdotes about her patients, weaving in discussions on diet, herbal supplements, acupuncture, older women and problems related to infertility. Lewis writes well and simplifies many complex concepts, such as the theory that there are four vital substances in the body (Yin, Yang, Qi and Blood), and that they're likely to be suffering from imbalance caused by energy excess, deficiency or stagnation. However, she trusts that her view is the solution for all infertile couples. Readers with infertility issues may well benefit by adopting some of Lewis's strategies, but they would also be wise to discuss her approach with their doctors before abandoning their current treatments.

Book Description
For thousands of years, Chinese women have trusted traditional Chinese medicine to help them conceive. A recent medical study found that women who augmented Western fertility treatments with TCM, traditional Chinese medicine, doubled their chances of a succesful pregnancy. THE INFERTILITY CURE gives women an effective, natural means of supporting their efforts to get pregnant. Based on techniques and remedies drawn from traditional Chinese medicine, this program shows readers how to increase their overall health and well-being, strengthen the organs and systems vital to reproduction, heal specific conditions that may affect fertility, and even support Western-based reproductive technology such as IVF and hormone therapy. Dr. Lewis' easy-to-follow program begins with diagnosis, using an extensive questionnaire to determine each reader's unique diagnostic category. The next three steps involve bringing a woman's body back into balance through diet, acupressure, and Chinese herbs. By following this program, women will be able to create a welcoming physical and emotional environment for what they desire most: a child.

Imbalances caused by energy excess, deficiency or stagnation?. Oh FGS!!!. What about recognised causes of subfertility like PCOS, endometriosis, male factor problems and PID to name but four!. None of these are caused by the above.

I don't like her blind faith approach to the subject. "However, she trusts that her view is the solution for all infertile couples. Readers with infertility issues may well benefit by adopting some of Lewis's strategies, but they would also be wise to discuss her approach with their doctors before abandoning their current treatments".

She's basically advising people to give up their conventional treatments and follow something that also has no guarantees of success. That's irresponsible.

I've got a copy that you can have if you want (just pay for postage). It's very techinical about chinese medicine and not that much use unless you know a good practioner.

I would be interested to know what she recommends in terms of diet.No alcohol, caffeine I expect.

MrsMcJnr · 12/09/2006 11:33

Respect your views Attila and I would agree with you that to turn your back on Western Medicine and subscribe wholly to TCM would be very unwise but I am still curious enough to read the book. I would love your copy Katierocket, do you use CAT?

I took one of Randine's expensive fertility retreats about 10 years ago, when we were trying to conceive. She promised a 70% success rate, and last time I checked, the pregnancy rate was in the order of 20%, which arguably would be the success rate without having taken her program. At least I see she's now stopped posing as a regular physician, and is specifying that has a PhD in Chinese medicine. It's unconscionable that people like Randine prey on the desperation of infertile couples. I also spent a fortune seeing another doctor of Chinese medicine for fertility, to no avail. The law should require that treatment methods be properly researched and evidence-based before they're allowed to make the claims they do.
