If I get my AF on Monday I want to start temping.

Does anyone have a recommendation for the best thermometer to use?

Also best / cheapest place to buy it?

Thanks in advance
(Hopefully won't need it)

Hi there

I'm a nurse, and would highly recommend the braun thermoscan temperature - in the ear and takes 2 seconds, used in most hospitals now. Need to read the instructions as the readings come out a little higher than temp taken in the mouth. As a mum its the best for checking my DS - I've used it on him since about 5 weeks (he;s 3 now!) and its so useful. Would recommend practising as you need to get the ear canal straight (easy in babes as they're so small!) - pull back your flappy bit on your ear to straighten the canal for the most accurate reading - and bizarrely enough I always read differently in one ear from the other, so stick to one for no false readings! Best price I can find is amazon (www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0001D0LMS) but its worth trying good old eBay!! Good luck!

think you need a body basal thermometer that does it to .1 degree F .. they're not that easy to find .. but Boots do them (albeit expensive) and I reckon some local chemists will stock

the problem with the Braun one is that its in Centigrade and not to such a small degree

Hi there this is true about the braun - to .1 C should be enough - but will bow to Twiglett's superior knowledge (can't work in F!!)

Thanks I'll get one off that site.

Is 1/10 enough for temping?

JL2 - see my other thread. 1/10 is fine.

I thought I read that ear readings were no good for charting purposes?

The ones on access diag are normal ones, not ear ones. They're only £4 for 2, so worth a go I figure.

Sounds like a good deal and so far I have found that company really reliable.
