This has really pissed me off. I have developed a good gym habit of Pilates/spin and swimming and exercise most days. Having a google today and it is advised that women trying to conceive should either do no exercise or very gentle exercise.

I am nearly forty, have had 2 miscarriages this year and am TTC. I am not prepared to give up excercise altogether but I'm wondering if I should give up the spinning? I do it twice a week for half an hour each time. The Pilates is difficult but not really cardiovascular so I assume that's ok, swimming is gentle to moderate I suppose.

Noooo, that's terrible news. I'm 44 and had a MC in January at 12 weeks so I took up running to lose weight and get fit to aid conception. I now run 7k 3 times a week, prior to this I detested exercise and never did any. I can't give up running but hope for a miracle before I get too ancient! Grin

Hi both, so I'm not an expert but I would say this is not true. I'm a dedicated gym bunny have been for years and play netball and run. I have many friends who do the same and all have conceived just fine. I think have a healthy body and mind which the gym and running will help with is way more likely to get u a bfp. After all Paula Radcliffe and jess Ennis managed bfp's :-)

Never heard that before. What was the source?

I think it's something to do with your core temperature increasing, when I was in my TWW I would try and keep heart rate below 130

I'm no expert either but I think this relates to extreme exercise for example I've heard that periods can stop during marathon training. Something to do with the way exercise affects hormone levels but I wouldn't be worried about the levels of exercise you describe OP Smile

Cycling is my main form of transport - at the moment Im TTC & doing 10 miles (an hour) a day. When I starting trying TTC I went to my Dr, I asked her if I should stop & she basically said carry on until your bump makes it too hard to balance!!
I think there is a thing about core temperature, but knowing how much regular exercise does for my physical & mental wellbeing, the idea of just stopping it all & just sitting around stressing about TTC instead sounds awful!

I don't think that's true either, my doctor advised plenty of exercise amongst other things to help me conceive.
