I posted last week but could really do with a bit of advice as I'm weirded out. We're not trying. Using condoms.

Cycles have been more in the 27-9 day range, with 29 being an average during the past year (as shown by app). It's now day 34. Tested yesterday afternoon - negative. Tested this morning, second pee of the day as the first was way too urgent for me to get organised (sorry - TMI) - negative.

I am bloated, not particularly crampy, but I do feel the need for the loo rather a bit....

But I have NEVER missed a period apart from when I fell pregnant with DS in 2011. I have not lost dramatic amounts of weight quickly, though I have lost a bit gradually. I do exercise very regularly....but that's been the case for the past year...I am certainly not underweight but I am small - size 6-8..If anything June has been slightly more licentious that my normal rather stoic existence - we went on holiday and I had 2 glasses of wine (ooooo) most nights and ate quite a bit. Oh...and I am not particularly stressed.

I guess my question is - I can't keep pregnancy testing (too expensive). When would you do the next one and when would you call for a GP appointment to ask for bloods and investigate other causes?

shameless bump
am reluctant to go to the GP straight off if they're just going to tell me to wait.......as it usually demands a half a day out of work...

anyone with any experience on this kind of thing?

I'd suggest you wait at least two days before testing again (or better a week, if you can). And you're right in that your GP is likely to just tell you to wait and not do anything yet. It's not unusual to have one random longer cycle, and I think they generally don't do any tests until you've missed two periods.

Thanks so much for posting metalhead. I can't talk to anyone in RL about it - DH doesnt want to engage really on the issue at the moment, he's just relieved the tests are negative. I'm finding it harder with every day to concentrate on normal things.
Oh bloody hell. 2 missed periods? A week I can wait...But another month? No. I can't. Baby or cancer. That's what's playing around in my head at the moment. Yes, an overreaction...but I've got a protruding belly, loss of appetite and generally don't feel 'right'. One part of me thinks this would just be impossible - we didnt notice anything wrong with the condoms and only DTD twice this month - and one part of me thinks it's the only answer to what I'm feeling....I do feel it is unusual for me to have a missed period. It's only happened once in 23 years....
As you can see, now anxious and frustrated. Sorry.

I have missed one period in my twenties and that was due to a radical diet change. Next month it was back and fine (funnily enough I was also eating normally again).

I would suggest waiting until you miss your second period, assuming you do, and then making a GP appointment. I assume you are of an age where the peri-menopause isn't a possibility?

SeatOfMyPants · 30/06/2014 14:22

thanks sebsmummy...

I'm 35...so I guess it's not unheard of. Jeepers. Crikey. No!!!!!!!!!

Radical diet change I could understand. When I diet, I don't starve myself but I do eat less and my periods reflect that (lighter, shorter). I was dieting for holiday and had a 24 day period in April - I expected something like that.... But May was 27 days, and completely normal in heaviness and length. And I was eating more than ever in June so I can't quite connect the dietary changes with the missed period, iyswim?

Argh!

I know how frustrating this is! Last year I had a cycle of over 80 days, the longest I'd ever had before that was about 40... in my case I think it was down to stress and illness (just a slight fever though, nothing major).

If you didn't have any problems with the condoms then it is unlikely that you're pregnant, though of course they're not 100% safe. Hopefully you'll get an answer soon.

Thanks! Me too. Really, really annoying.
